January 25, 200323 yr I was enviously watching you guys scroll across my whazzup screen tonight, and I realized I knew most of your names just by looking at your callsigns. I thought to myself what a strange relationship...so one-sided. So I thought I'd let ya'll know a little about myself. Hmm...where to begin...My name is Jeff Hepburn, and I'm a 24 year old senior at the University of Georgia. I graduate in May with a degree in Management Information Systems. I was married last August to the most wonderful woman in the world...well :) she doesn't really like flightsim all that much, but she's getting used to it. I have frequented this forum for the past 1.5 years, but I don't post very often. I have attempted to make all of MB's Vatsim events and have managed to make none :)My normal callsigns on Vatsim are DAL425 (pic) and UAL425 (dreamfleet -- thanks Lee for the great repaint included with the merge). I guess that's all I can really think of... Thanks for listening to me ramble!Jeff
January 25, 200323 yr Well since we are on first name basis here, My name is Randy Smith, 34 years old, divorced and Flight simulator fanatic, with a degree in hard knocks. I post way to much on this forum and also have missed all of Mike's s h i t dings, but that's mostly because I just started using Vatsim not long ago and don't want to make a fool of myself just yet. I could think of more things to write, but then I would be over my quota for the day.Best Wishes,Randy J. [email protected]" A little learning is a dangerous thing" Randy J Smith
January 26, 200323 yr my name is Tom van der Elst,i'm 27 years old,and sorry for you mate, but uhm,I AM married to the most wonderful woman in the world :-)i work as a driver, and will not make any of the pic on vatsim events, because i'm on a 56k modem,on a p3 500.....it shuts down on me when i have all the vatsim stuff running.... :-(
January 26, 200323 yr Tom,Believe it or not, I have logged a bunch of my on line hours on a P1 300 with 64mb of RAM and a 56k modem. And nearly half of my VATSIM hours were with a 900 MHz and a 56k modem, and that is still my primary computer. How I did it on FS2002 with the 900 and a 56K?Pull sliders for display settings down to the middle or belowNo dynamic sceneryNo autogen scenerySB TCAS range at 5 miles, zero when necessaryNow, with the broadband connection and shedding the Squawkbox, FSMeteo, and Roger Wilco load off to my old computer using WideFS over a home network configuration, I can get away with opening up the TCAS range to 40 miles most of the time. And, able to slip the display sliders up to about 3/4. But dynamic scenery and autogen are still kept off unless flying general aviation aircraft. The big thing is being able to accept the lower display settings in the trade off for on-line flying. For my taste, it's an easy choice.I hope one day soon you can get the equipment and configuration to be able to join us. To Jeff and Randy:We have a great time together on VATSIM and are always happy to have new people join the family. Get your butts on line and give us a yell.
January 27, 200323 yr Looking forward to it Mike! I have logged a couple of hours to get the "feel" down. I must admit there's nothing quite like it. I just up graded my cpu from a AMD 1600+ 256 DDR ram to a AMD XP 2100+ and 512 DDR ram and now I can run all sliders all the way up at 1280x1024 32 bit and still get 10-30 FPS depending of course where I am at. It at no time shows any stuttering like before. The biggest improvement I think was the ram. I also set my cache for scenery to 500 megs. I really love it now. Nothing like clear detailed scenery and a smooth feeling aircraft.Best Wishes,Randy J. [email protected]" A little learning is a dangerous thing" Randy J Smith
