May 25, 200323 yr Hi all. Is it possible t revert to basic radio navigation in pic. I fly real world dc-10s and we use the a fms with dual gps. While flying on fms im able to tune in a vor along a route and monitor the fms progress by swithcing the ehsi to vor. Our rad/fms button on the heading control panel allows us switch from fms track to radial as long as the nav aid is tuned up and the course is set. I couldnt figure out how to do this in pic. My company requires us to back up the fms with a different nav solution always.
May 25, 200323 yr Rich, neither the 757 or 767 have VOR Tracking as a function of the autopilot.2 ways to achieve this in PIC1. Use Map Mode, FMC FIX Page and enter the radial you want to fly. Either hand fly or use HDG SEL to navigate along the green line in the MAP display on the EHSI.2. Use Vor Mode, Nav 1 Radio. Tune Nav 1 Radio to the selected VOR under Manual Mode. Tune in the radial course you want. Switch to VOR mode on the EHSI. Just a matter of centreing the needle and keeping it centered. Handflown or HDG SEL again if using the autopilot to accomplish this. Once established on the radail HDG Hold could be used.
May 26, 200323 yr Cool.. Thats the way ive been doing it with pic. Wanted to make sure i wasnt missing any thing since ive never read manuals. Same technique some use for circling approaches(heading wheel) Thanks
May 26, 200323 yr I am a bit curious about the fact that a REAL DC-10 pilot does not know how to navigate on VOR
May 26, 200323 yr Matthias, I think rich knows how to navigate just fine using VORs, what he was asking was if it could be done with PIC the same way its done in DC-10s.Ryan
May 26, 200323 yr Commercial Member If you truly want to get the effect that the 767 is tracking a VOR on the autopilot though, do this:On the FMC LEGS page - enter the VOR (or the next waypoint if you're flying away from a station) as the top waypoint in the list (LSK 1L), as soon as you enter it, you'll see a small INTC CRS prompt appear down in the lower right corner tied to LSK 6R. Enter the course you want to fly to the waypoin there, EXECute the changes to the FMC, and turn to an appropriate intercept heading in HDG SEL mode. Press LNAV to arm the mode and as soon as the plane gets close enough to the radial, LNAV will engage and the plane will begin auto-tracking the specified course to the waypoint. You can monitor raw data by tuning NAV1 on the glareshield to the VOR freq and course and then use either the RMI or the VOR mode of the EHSI to see the actual CDI etc...Ryan Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
May 27, 200323 yr Thanks all... Just wondering if you could slave the autopilot to track a nav aid. I guess in the 75/76 you have to hand fly a true nav aid course or mess with the heading bug to track it. Thinking of that we recently had a crew lose their fms. They were flying in the middle east when the lavatory leaked into the avionics bay. It caused a failure of all 3 cdu's and fms interaction and various other systems. With 6 hours of flight left to reach a suitable airport, they used the high charts to tune nav aids to stay on the j routes with the autopilot in radial track.
