July 9, 200322 yr In my continuing quest for simming to become more and more like reality, I'd like to do something and was hoping that perhaps one of you fine gentlemen (or ladys...are there any here?) might have some helpful advice.I'd like to have my cockpit sounds (engines, warnings, clicks, etc.) coming out of my main speakers while using my headphones w/ mic for interacting w/ VATSIM ATC. I've been thinking on how to do this, but haven't come up with a clear answer. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
July 9, 200322 yr Onboard Sound and Sound Card.Use 1 for the Speakers, the other for the Mic/Headphones combo.
July 9, 200322 yr Sounds good...but how would I distribute the various sounds. As I write this I can't think of a way to make one set of sounds go to the sounds card and the other to the onboard sound.
July 9, 200322 yr That may pose a problem for people using the sound card for their controller (i.e. joystick.yokoe plugged in to the sound card)...in most cases, you have to disable the on-board sound (in the BIOS) to be able to use the sound card to drive the controller. I am not aware of any way around this.Rob.
July 9, 200322 yr I have FS using my default sound card hooked up to speakers. With RW, you can specify which sound it uses. I have RW using my onboard sound card. It works great.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
July 9, 200322 yr I have a similiar setup at home Lee.No onboard sound for my system, but I use my main soundcard hooked up to the speaker/subwoofer for all of my aircraft sounds.I went out and purchased a second old PCI sound card for $25 CDN and have Roger Wilco (and AVC) configured to use the second card. Now I can control the sim and atc volumes independent of each other. The configuration for RW/AVC is simple - there is a configuration tab where you actually specify which sound card you want to use.For any controllers out there - when ASRC 1.1 is released you will notice some new features that also allow you to take advantage of multiple sound cards.
July 9, 200322 yr Ahhhhh....I see the light. I went to the config tab on RW and sure enough, one can make a selection. Thanks again.
July 9, 200322 yr Rob,You know that duel throttle control I use, the old analog Suncom SFS. It plugs into my SBLive card along with my headphones. The surround speakers with woofer plug into my onboard sound ports. No problem at all. However, some older mother boards with onboard sound do have an issue as you describe. But there is a potential work around by picking up an additional sound card. Think about it, it is worth trying and as long as you do not sink too much money on the extra card, it may come in handy later on.Mike
July 11, 200322 yr I tried this for months and months but kept having sound card conflicts and crashes. A high school kid on another forum suggested getting a LABTEC headset with a USB connection. That did the trick perfectly...now I get all of the FS sounds through my main speakers and just RW through the headphones. The USB set-up got me around the problems I was having trying to use two sound cards and the sound quality through the headphones is excellent.regards,
