December 2, 200322 yr I'm fortunate enough to have my good friend who is a B752 captain for Royal Nepal Airlines here in Denver at the UA Flight Training Center for his recurrent training. Actually, he's Chief Pilot for the small airline that runs 2 B752's (one is the only combi ever made) and several Twin Otters, and gets to fly to places like Gatwick, Kansai, Singapore, Frankfurt, etc from Kathmandu.I'm taking him flying in my club's C172 this weekend, and it promises to be a real blast. He's not flown a 172 now for many many years since his CPL (I think I might let him take the controls :) ), and we are planning 4 hours of real fun out of Jeffco (KBJC) on Sunday. Are there any questions that anyone might have about flying the B752, or the B752 in particular, that you might want me to ask and post back here later? I see this guy every 6 months but always forget to ask this question here.Thanks,Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
December 2, 200322 yr Bruce, read this thread:http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=105137you might pick up on some real interesting stuff to ask.
December 2, 200322 yr Author Hi Mark,Thanks. I'm printing this now and will show him for comment :). I have heard some stuff too that I don't wish to repeat about various ops.....Thanks,Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
December 2, 200322 yr No problem Bruce.I noticed reading that thread that there's a lot of Politics going on out there. Pretty good job nonetheless of getting the bird back to base on standby instruments after triple IRS failure.
December 2, 200322 yr Author Yes, but releasing an a/c with less than the MEL? Still, doesn't surprise me, I have been to Nepal and seen the ops at KTM.And those 2 757's run almost non-stop. I think they may have suspending ops to Europe (Paris, Frankfurt, Gatwick) for the moment, but while they were doing that run as well as the SE Asia/Orient destinations, the a/c was never out of service long enough to be worked on. I saw a monthly schedule, and even allowing for on-time performance it just didn't happen I guess!!Thanks Mark. I look forward to discussing this incident with my friend. I have seen RNA pilots put a/c into places that I still don't believe possible (and I was there and saw it happen), so they are well trained :)Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
December 2, 200322 yr Bruce, sounds like the summer charter schedule that the UK tour ops fly. In the schedule they factor in down time to do a weekly check and at other times it's 1 hour between flights.Maybe you could get your friend to write a short tutorial/explanation of the complex approach procedures into Katmandhu. I am sure that this would interest many on the forum.
December 3, 200322 yr Author Just talked to my friend tonight on the phone. Sunday's flight is probably off, since some of the crew he was to train have been delayed for reasons of (wait for it) aircraft problems which resulted in them being stranded somewhere. So his schedule is now changed, it seems. Goodness knows what happened, but assuming I do get to see him before he leaves on 12/17, I'll be sure to ask him about KTM ops. He's told me before about the DME approach to KTM that they normally use but I'd rather get it exactly right here.Thanks,Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
