January 28, 200422 yr Hello to all, just noticed the Evac Test button on the overhead panel. Do the pilots push this switch on the first flight or is this for maintenance only? Thank you :)
February 1, 200422 yr Hi,Don't know how I missed this :).Anyway, EVAC test button is pressed before every flight. It's part of captains cockpit preparation flow. The button is pressed to see that the red bulbs light up (which in normal operation indicate, that the EVAC command switch is in ON position).Tero PPL(A)
February 2, 200422 yr Our 767's are not fitted with the EVAC horn, however on our 744 fleet the test switch is not part of the pre-flight. Interestingly pushing it simply tests the bulb... it does not test the actual system. Seeing as it is not procedure to check flightdeck bulbs before flight this test is not carried out.
February 2, 200422 yr The EVAC test switch in the 767 ONLY tests the bulbs as well. (source 767 AOM)Mike Ray categorizes the EVAC test button press in the captain's cockpit preparation flow, but understandably it's not part of it in every company. ;)Tero PPL(A)
February 3, 200422 yr "Interestingly pushing it simply tests the bulb... it does not test the actual system."Interestingly, it is powered by the Hot Battery Bus, so the test should, theoretically, work on a dead ship.... but don't push the button for too long, or you'll flatten the battery :( Cheers.Ian.
