Anything more is impossible. GAU files are compiled program code, they're really DLLs.They cannot be easily decompiled (and even if you could you'd need compilers etc. to recreate them).While C decompilers do exist they're far from perfect and usually produce hardly readable assembler code.

You can of course edit XML gauges which are basically BMP's & Text documents held in a CAB file. If you are looking to start creating gauges from a "Start Point" then you can get a good Start from the Baron gauges.You can edit them using either FS Panel Studio (which is pretty useful) or open the XML into notepad which actually makes it easier to read.I was considering trying to learn how to create gauges using "C" but after starting with XML it doesn't appear too bad (well not rocket science anyway !!).
