PAI release there planes.we should use them as CSL.Easy on framerates and have reflektion.do anyone no how to do this?

Yes, it's quite time-consuming, though. Before you start, make a backup copy of the 'aircraft.cfg' found in the 'CSL' folder. Then, open up the PAI aicraft folders and copy and rename their 'model' folders to the 'CSL' folder, for example, take the PAI A320 'model' folder and call it 'model.PAIA320' Then, copy over and rename the textures from the PAI folders to the 'CSL' folder. Name them according to aircraft type, e.g. 'texture.A320United'. Then open up the 'aicraft.cfg' in the 'CSL' folder with notepad and scroll down to the entry for the UAL Airbus 320. It should look like this: [fltsim.131]Title=~UAL320Sim=JETModel=A320Panel=Sound=JETTexture=UALChecklists=description=Squawkbox Aircraft "Common Shape Library" AircraftnDo not atempt to fly this aircraft, it has no accurate flight model and was designed purely to be "seen" as traffic in a Squawkbox online sessionNow, change the entries for 'Model=' and 'Texture=' to point to your new aircraft thus:[fltsim.131]Title=~UAL320Sim=JETModel=PAIA320Panel=Sound=JETTexture=A320UnitedChecklists=description=Squawkbox Aircraft "Common Shape Library" AircraftnDo not atempt to fly this aircraft, it has no accurate flight model and was designed purely to be "seen" as traffic in a Squawkbox online sessionNow your planes will show up, but I haven't dealt with the lights or contact points, as the CSL 'aircraft.cfg' doesn't have any. When I tried it out online to see how they would show up, of course no-one was flying any of the planes I created - Murphy's Law, I suppose...I'm not sure, if it's possible to direct the entries in the 'aircraft.cfg' to a different 'aircraft' folder, so that it uses that config file - i.e. direct it to the appropriate PAI folder without renaming and copying 'model' and 'texture' folders.Maybe someone else can shed some light on this...Cheers,Gosta.

Doesn't such editing of the local CSL aircraft.cfg screw up everyone else on the network? Isn't this what causes others to see you as themselves? I'm pretty sure I have read in this forum a post by the CSL author saying that VAs repainting their CSL aircraft cause this type of problem.Lee Hetherington (KBOS)

I can't really see how, you could have problems on your own machine, but that shouldn't be transferred onto the network. As I understand it, the CSL was designed to have a common frame of reference on each machine, that is also frame-rate friendly. So, instead of importing every full aircraft model, it references the part in the CSL aircraft.cfg, that represents the other player's aircraft. If you edit it on your machine to point to a non-CSL model, that should only affect the way it is displayed on your computer - there isn't any need to export/import any models, as every Squawkbox user has the CSL in their aircraft folder. However, there is a warning at the beginning of the aircraft.cfg:;The Common Shape Library (CSL) © 1999, 2000; by Sean Galbraith and Brett Collings;;This file is auto-generated from a database of over 1,000 items, each; line and entry interacts with several specific parts of the programme.;; Do Not change anything in this file unless you have a very good idea; of what will happen;; WARNING: If you add an aircraft to this or any other file in the CSL; suite, it quite likely you will suffer a major decrease in framerate and; a major degradation in the performance of FS98 and FS2000;;Match the dates of all CSL files.;Ver.sion.build number: 1.7.5 28/05/00 22:02:19Now, I'm not quite sure, what they're trying to say here, but the warning about replacing aircraft only says you may suffer a loss in performance. That I can live with :). The easiest way to try it out would be to make some of the changes, and then arrange a date on Vatsim at some remote abandoned airfield in outer Mongolia and see, if and how everyone's display is affected. I'd be happy to volunteer.Cheers,Gosta.

You are quite correct, as long as you leave the CSL_ICAO.CSV file (in your SB folder) alone you wont affect the other users on the network.>However, there is a warning at the beginning of the >aircraft.cfg: >>;The Common Shape Library (CSL) © 1999, 2000 >; by Sean Galbraith and Brett >Collings >>Now, I'm not quite sure, what they're trying to say here, >but the warning about replacing aircraft only says you may >suffer a loss in performance. That I can live with :). Again, quite correct. The intent of the warning was to discourage users from editting the files, then blaming *me* for CSL not working "as advertised" :)Sean GalbraithBizarreWorks,Specialists in Obscure and Bizarre Sim Development http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/seang1/
