Squawkbox RIP - the future has arrived

Featured Replies

As a someone who used to fly online on VATSIM regularly back in the FS2000 days I have done so less and less due to the increasing complexity of trying to use the SB program from within FS2002/4. I'd dearly love to get my Father up online but frankly the whole squawkbox thing is so complex (witness the postings here) that I know he'd never be able to open it let alone use it!I think I've been waiting about 4 years for the original squawkbox code to be re-written and progress on that has been slow, some would say non-existent until quite recently due to the other commitments its developers have had.Until now, there was no alternative, but soon, thank heavens there will be. It's called the Flightproject pilot client (http://www.flightproject.net/) and basically seems to offer evrything any of us have ever wanted from a pilot client for online flying. It would seem to be unclear whether VATSIM will allow its use on their network, but frankly I don't see why they shouldn't. I think we have struggled with squawkbox long enough. If the purpose of VATSIM is to encourage people to get online and enjoy it, I can think no better way of achieving that aim. What do you think?Jonathan

Hello Jonathan, the successor to Squawkbox version 2.x (as we use it today on VATSIM) is Squawkbox Version 3. This version is currently in development by Joel de Young. For more info visit http://www.squawkbox.ca .ATOC is a pilot client developed to worh on the PFI network. It is not approved for use on the VATSIM network and there are currently no plans to approve it.Yours,Martin Georg/EDDFVACC-SAG PR & Events Coordinator *** mailto:[email protected]http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...r=SAG01&a=a.jpg
