Wondering approximately what percentage of controllers are using voice communication (as my keyboarding skills are terrible). Is there somewhere I can find this info? Thinking again about trying Vatsim. Never had much luck in the past. I now have highspeeed now and thinking about giving it another shot.ThanksAdam

Can't give you a real number. But as the Assistant Chief Instructor for the Toronto FIR and can tell you voice is something we get new controllers started out on right from the begining. Most of the Canadian FIRs work like this. So 98% of the controllers you get in Canada will be on voice. Other areas follow other guide lines, but over all I would say 85-90% of all ATC will be on voice. However Vatsim states Voice is only an option and text is the main comm format.

Nowadays - I'd say that finding a text only ATC is becoming increasingly rare tho I believe ( can someone confirm?) that in the US students in some circumstances are not allowed voice. If you're going to have a go at VATSIM flying - use the Pilots resource Center(Link at top of this page) for the software downloads and step by step setup instructions.BTW Roger Wilco no longer in use - now it's AVC on VATSIM- better results.Dave

Yes. Please use AVC not Roger Wilco... not only does RogerWilco sound and work not as well for the person using Roger Wilco... it can actually stuff up everyone's voice on the voiceroom weather theyre using Roger Wilco, AVC or ASRC voice, with some calls not coming through, distortions, echos, or forced disconnections all being issues. The strange one is that sometimes Roger Wilco can make other people in the voiceroom 'deaf' that is to say, they are still connected to the room and can talk in it, but they can't hear anything that happens in it. and that's not limited to the Roger Wilco user either... once the Roger Wilco user goes away, everything returns to normal.

Thanks guys for the info. I'm having trouble even getting Windows to recognize my headset, so I'll be getting that straightened out of course before moving on.Thanks again,Adam
