February 26, 200620 yr Hi,When flying from the Americas to Europe along a NAT track, when shall we get the oceanic clearance: on the ground or once in the air and approaching the US or Canadian Atlantic coast?CheersCJ
February 26, 200620 yr I can't speak for the US, but in Europe it depends how far away your departure airport is from the start of the NAT tracks. This is from www.vatsim-uk.org on the Oceanic page.Depending on the longitude of the airport you are departing from the procedure for receiving your clearance will vary. 2.1 Airports WEST of 03W (E.G. - Dublin, Shannon, Glasgow) If you are at an airport west of 03W you receive your oceanic clearance on the GROUND. 2.2 Airports EAST of 03W (E.G. - London, Manchester, Paris) If you are at an airport east of 03W you will get your oceanic clearance in the air by sending a Private Chat Message to Shanwick, preferably about half an hours flying time before entering the OCA. Note - In either case, if you get delayed and your ETA for the entry point changes by more than 5 minutes, send a Private Message to Shanwick Clearance advising them. Ruth
