Hi guysHere's another one...lolWhat in your opinion is the fastest system to get rotaries to work smooth and accurate? I would like to have an almost imediate response to the panels they are outputting. i.e the radio stacks and the MCP.Is there any system today that work as the real thing (737-NG) i.e. without any "notches" or as I would say seemless? I can't seem to find the right word here. Some card that would have direction and acceleration as inputs?

Mats, What you re talking about is called rotary encoder. This is what will send a immedate response. I don't think Radio Shack nearby has any of it, You can order it from any electronics manufacturer. I would recommend you to order it from Digikey, and their website is www.digikey.com) You would Also need a interfaced card that would send data through to PC controller board. If you don't mind about the budget cost, the best module you can use is EPIC's rotary encoder module. Also, Ray Sotkiewicz, the bluesides up founder is selling the QRC-Quad Rotary Circuit (not sure if this is what its stands for) and you can find through www.avsim.combluesidesup Lastly, if you do mind about budget, Ray sotkiewicz has a circuit diagram which you can take look at it (if you are expert in electronics) You could interface it yourself. This is what I did last month, with Ray Sotkiewicz's help and it works sucessfully.

A circuit that converts rotary encoder action to keyboard press action can be found in the DIY1_0.ZIP document in the AVsim library. I used it for trim disk action conversion. Makes use of standard CMOS IC's.Roland

PeterK There are many types of rotary switchesBreak before mate action...Mate before break action...You also can change the throw tollerence on the military rotary switches...Going to Radio shack and getting a $1.69 rotary switch in plasticis not going to help you out...You need to pick up a electronics distributors catalog like Granger or Sager...Pete

PeterKYou can try also by experimenting with a 4 level rotary switchthat has 10-15 positions the main thing is to wire the levelsso the switch in Binary using the comination of the 4 levels..there a 4 numbers 1 2 4 8 and combination makes up t 15 selctionsthere numbers ar 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D Eusing the combinations of 0000 0001 0020 0021 0400 0401 0420 04218000 8001 8020 8021 8400 8401 8421Im using this as a cheap example and the rotary switch system is used on old military radio equipment ...hope this helps out...Pete
