Want to build, where to start?

Featured Replies

Now that my favorite aircraft has come out in a few different variants (Dash 8) I am thinking it is possibly a good time to look at building a cockpit for one. I think my biggest problem is going to be finding parts etc. Considering that the first commercially flown Dash 8 is still flying I am assuming old spare parts and the possibility of finding a nose section will be next to impossible. So, where do I get started? Is there a web site that gives some good pointers to first time builders? Where are the best places to look for parts? Oh ya, anybody got a Dash 8 Nose section for sale? Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.http://www3.telus.net/dport1/Radar_small.gifRC3 - Just gotta' have it!http://www3.telus.net/dport1/Radar_small.gifhttp://www3.telus.net/dport1/dansig.jpg

Hi Dan,A good start for a first time builder is some background reading. Three recommendations:Take a look at Roland van Roy's writeup on DIY Cockpits which I believe is posted both here on AVSIM and on FlightSim. A very informative series was written by Kev Saker called "How To Build Kev's Cockpit". I think it's only posted at FlightSim in the How-To section. The introduction I've written is on my site, URL below. Can't help you with specific sources of Dash-8 parts, but there are a few URLs on my links page for firms that part out aircraft. That might be a start. Another possibility is to take a look through Trade-A-Plane and look for aircraft salvage.Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.comInfo for simpit builders.

Some places to look are www.simspares.com and www.ebay.com. On eBay, go to the automobile section, www.ebaymotors.com, and you can drill down or search within the aviation category. You can set up a MyEbay page with saved searches that'll be emailed to you when they match. For info on building a cockpit, this forum has lots of info. Try some searches through it. There are also links to individual projects from which you can learn.Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums Moderator

http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/logo75t.gifBush Flying Unlimited"At home in the wild"Looking for adventure?
