November 3, 200322 yr Because there is led between 78L12 ground pin and ground. Out voltage should be some 13.6 volts. Normally that 78L12 regulator gives 12 volt out. But with led you raise ground 1.6 volt whith that led.I use 12 volt PC AT-power supply and input voltage is some 15-16 volts. Output is 13.6 volts. This low input Might be cause for that low output voltage. because regulator need little extra on input side to produce stable output voltage.Try that 12 volt supply. You can use it without heatsing on 7805, but only for little short time. Just to check voltages.- J
November 3, 200322 yr Thanks for that, I'll give it a shot and I'll let you know!By the way I already have a heatsink on the 7805 so it should be ok.Brad.
November 3, 200322 yr Brad, As discussed put a heat sink on the 5V regulator & try feeding the board with the PC power supply, the yellow lead on the PC connectors is 12.At the input of the 78L12 I get 19V, this voltage is produced by the 555 timer, the output at my 78L12 is 13.96. Check around the 555 timer area it sounds like it is not doing the job properly, The supply of my PC power supply is 11.73V.Cheers Glenn.
November 3, 200322 yr Hey Glenn,I hooked up the 12V supply and its boosted the 78L12 Output to 13.81V. But I still can't get the thing to Flash, its gets to about 20% and then says "read after write failure". If I completely disconnect FSBUS from the PC it does progress at all so I sort of know that its comunicating with the pc??????Brad.

My fsbus does the same, I have to flash a few times usually to get it to finish it.There seems to be some time-critical stuff going on.Also try closing all other programs if you have something on the background (running seti@home or such is not a good idea while flashing :))Tuomas
November 3, 200322 yr Follow what Tuomas said. At least now you have correct voltages in there and system is working. You have some problems with 555 timer circuit. Like it looks that it doesn't give enough voltage with 9 volts as it should give.But. Shorter cables. Shutdown all backround programs and so on.And try few times. And with different PC too.- J
November 3, 200322 yr Brad, My Pentium II does exactly what you described & sometimes nearly gets to 100% but never does it successfully, try now with the newer PC & it just might work now that the voltage is good for programming.I will send you an email at your hotmail address.Cheers Glenn.
November 3, 200322 yr YOU LITTLE RIPPER......IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I closed all running apps except for the router and it wrote then I read it and tried shorting out the Key pins and it WORKED!OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you so much guys....it wouldn't have been possible without your help!Take care and stay in touch!!!!!!!!!Yours Sincerely,
November 3, 200322 yr Onya Brad, The fun doesn't stop there mate, it's just the beginning !Oh & don't wear out your toggle switch turning the NAV lights on & off all night..........Cheers Glenn.
