December 25, 200322 yr Hi All :-)I have started a new group for builders of the Boeing 737 type flight deck. If you are interested in joining this group please go to:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/B737_HomeFlightDeck_Builders/Although this group is 737 focused, builders of other decks are mostwelcome to join and participate.ZK-SHBIf it isn't Boeing I'm not going.
December 31, 200322 yr Hi Again AllI have had to rename this group (there was some confusion with some scouting groups!) If you are still interested in joining please go to;http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Boeing-737-H...tdeck-Builders/ZK-SHB
December 31, 200322 yr ZK-SHB...and othersI just posted a message regarding the "Boeing Analog Cockpit Group", and would like to send the same message here.WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER...I have been building for many years, and it is just SOOOOO much more efficient and effective to have ONE location where I can search, read, share and discuss cockpit building items. Regardless of cockpit TYPE, there are far more topics that apply to ALL home-built cockpits, than apply to only one type. If we split off, then the body of knowledge that we all contribute to, will become weak and stale. With so few projects out there...we need to keep together to support the hobby. One suggestion, if I may make one, is that SPECIFIC websites have forums to discuss the current content within that website. For example, on my 777 site, you would be able to ask how I did this or that...or why I messed up a great design with my crazy ideas!! :)I think that sort of forum is best separated from this one...but not an entire cockpit type! What we ARE missing, though...is a good directory of projects. I know that the 'webring' is out there...but it only has 30 projects...and we all KNOW there are more out there. Of course, not all of those are even 'alive' (ahem, ahem...). Maybe a directory that breaks down into 'Boeings' -> '707', '777' etc... would be a good way to keep track. If anyone has any ideas...let's get that running. In any case, let's keep our team tight...we all benefit!(one alternate idea is to form a 'Type-specific' sub group of this forum...where type specific questions can be asked. At least then we still keep the body of knowledge in one location)
December 31, 200322 yr >I just posted a message regarding the "Boeing Analog Cockpit>Group", and would like to send the same message here.I have to agree on this thread too :)>What we ARE missing, though...is a good directory of projects.>I know that the 'webring' is out there...but it only has 30>projects...and we all KNOW there are more out there. He has a huge amount of stuff on his site as well, so it serves well as a all-round index of everything under the homecockpit sun.The most important value in this forum is the photos and ideas everyone is posting - many times you get good inspiration from others work, rarely that is exactly the same aircraft type.Tuomas
January 1, 200422 yr I have started an Australasian builders group with the help of Simulation Hardware NZ. Even though this group has just started out, Simulation Hardware is just about to provide an area where we can display pictures for others to see, not within the posts but a seperate area. How about that for customer service.Maybe someone out there with webspace should donate space for a boeing group, just like Simulation Hardware did for us!!Our Australaisian group can be found at:http://www.simhardware.co.nz/forums/viewfo...1cd967713c08cbcRegards,BRAD HELLER.
January 1, 200422 yr I agree 100% the problem being that there was no one stop shop for 737 builders or I suggest builders of other types, there is information scattered around, I'm sure all of us have found this and setting up a group seems the easiest way to solve this. I'm quite happy to move this group to a website if someone is prepared to offer some space on their servers for such a group. Yahoo was easy to setup and a location everyone could access and has an easy file upload/ download section.Anyway if we could get something a little more robust setup that would be great.ZK-SHB
January 1, 200422 yr If all 737 builders from here flock to another site it doesnt make anything better imho, you just disappear and so we would lose all the 737 folks telling what they are doing, and you still would come back to check whats going on here. Doesnt sound like an improvement to me.Would it gain anything at all? This forum is not that busy, and most of the issues and ideas are not type specific anyway. I'd hate to see all the different jetliner folks disappear to their own forums even though I am not building an airliner cockpit myself. The synergy here is what sets the avsim forum apart from the others. I'd say 95% of the stuff is applicaple to all kinds of cockpits and sim hardware, it'd suck if some of that would move to yet another forum nobody knows about.Having a 737 specific resource page sounds more like a good idea. Someone can maintain it and all you 737 dudes can put a link on your signature text. That would point all new 737-interested folks to the resources and would be a good thing. But the discussion benefits most if everyone stays on the same place.Tuomas
January 1, 200422 yr I have to agree. We already miss out on a wealth of information from the European and South American builders who have there own forums in there own languages. The last thing we need is to start having to search group after group to find solutions to problems because specific aircraft types have gone their own way.Besides obvious differences in style, everything thats aplicable to the 737 is applicable to all Boeing,Airbus and GA aircraft because below all of those panels the hardware we need to interface them is all the same. I like the idea of having webpages where builders can post pics of there projects but I think when it comes to problems and solutions their is no better place to post than here.CheersGaz
