December 5, 200421 yr Has anyone any experience of this? My current set up has a projector about 11 feet from a 6 feet wide screen. The problem is that I have a lot of area visible around the screen of my surroundings.I can't move the projector any further back because I just don't have the space. So, what if i put a rear projection screen quite near to my windshields and bounce the image off a mirror ( I know if I rear project directly the image will be too small with the distance I have available form the front)?Do I need an enormous mirror to do this? How close do i need to get the projector to the mirror? How far do I need the screen from the mirror?Do I have any alternatives to buying a really expensive rear projection screen(is there anything I can make one from) ?Can I curve the screen perhaps without distorting the image too much?Yes, i know , a lot of questions. I realise that much depends on focal lengths etc. But maybe someone out there has some experience of this and can give me some ideas and thoughts.Http://simflight.fotopic.net
December 5, 200421 yr By the way, I did do a search on here and found some info, but I know that people change and progress with their sims, I wanted the newest info and perhaps a little more detail than I already found especially with regards to material for the screen.
December 5, 200421 yr Ahh, yes , I've seen this. Very nice. What type and size of mirror are you using and what about your screen material ?Thanks for the reply
December 5, 200421 yr Hello,I have proven five different screens and mirrors, the two better screen for retroproyecci
December 5, 200421 yr Hola Rafael,I like the second design very much. Excellent for my small room.thanks. By the way dont forget my panels and the message to Alberto regarding the ON737 layout issue.SaludosRoger
December 5, 200421 yr Thanks for the detailed information Rafael.I'm going to do some testing with a cotton sheet and the mirror from my living room ( my girlfriend will be so pleased, not ! )I can't mount my projector vertically, there are all kinds of nasty warnings in the manual about lamp explosions if the projector is tilted too much, and I guess that 90 degrees is way too much !If and when, i have got some reasonable results I will have to bite the bullet once more and buy some proper rear pro material and a mirror. Then there's more Simkits ,engine instruments, radios , a GPS screen , autopilot.....And I'm still looking for some real Queenair lightplates.
December 6, 200421 yr Hi rogerI have not forgotten its panels, I have spoken by telephone with Alberto, very it is occupied, and it does not have possibility of acceding at the moment to the email
December 6, 200421 yr Two things.... first, if you need to tilt the projector significantly, just get a cheap electric fan and point it in through the vent slots on the projector. Secondly, you can use metallized mylar easily by stretching it over a regular sheet of glass. You effectively get a front surface mirror for the price of a piece of window glass and some mylar. You can just stretch the mylar on a wooden frame, but the glass adds very usefull rigidity.Richard
December 6, 200421 yr I'm using a regular mirror, not seen any distortion or ghost image with my setup. for backprojection screen I use a shower drapery bought on IKEA for less than 3 Euro.
December 6, 200421 yr Hi Johan,You will be contented with your mirror. But it is obvious that one takes place two or more ghost images, the subtreatment of the regular glass of mirrors are made with recycled of the glass and these have a slight green color, this produces an absorption of light of a 50%.SaludosRafael
December 6, 200421 yr I think the Big Sims nowadays use a vacuum-stretched Mylar film for a mirror. Dunno where to obtain that. They basically pull it to a curvy shape with the vacuum.//Tuomas
December 6, 200421 yr Hi Tuomas, Is very much difficult to make concave-convex vacum frames, for our knowledge it is practically impossible. The serious ideal system to make the concave-convex lens mirrored to 50 % in a single face. The image reflected in this side of the lens projected to the concave-convex mirror of Mylar.I have contacted with Dupont, they make the film, soon other companies metalize it. I am hoping that they give samples to me of diverse think, from 50 microns to 175 microns, ideal is 96 % reflection and 50 microns.SaludosRafael
December 6, 200421 yr I have a set of Queen Air pilot's side sub-panels if you are interested. Drop me an email if so...
