January 7, 200521 yr I thought I woould share some of the photos of my first attempt to mold my own K1 type switches. They still have to be painted and the PCB is not totally ready. (waiting for smaller tactiles). This is one switch shown with the parts, shown together and showm in the panel. These are custom built for the panel I purchased (20mm X 20mm cutouts).
January 7, 200521 yr Have you got any more pictures of your MCP??From a 777?Do you have any more detail on the construction of the switches?A website to view?David
January 7, 200521 yr The panel is a 747 from DS. I have not completed the switch fully yet. So far, I have used approx. 30 individual pieces of plastic to make it, and I already have ideas on improvements. I am beginning to write a paper about the switch. If I knew how many I was going to need, I would get mine all molded and then pass on the molds. As I stated, I am waiting for 6mm tactile switches to arrive so I can complete the circuit board construction. The pictures I take are of very poor quality due to haveing a 5 year old digital camera with no zoom or macro. I will see if I can get some more pictures of the MCP. Milt
January 7, 200521 yr OK, I have attempted to get a couple of pictures of my MCP in progress, front and back. On the back view you will notice that there are 3 whites plastic holders. These are hold the rotaries to the panel, and I molded them. On the front, the knobs are also some of my molds. None of the molded parts have been painted yet. I have also molded knobs for dual concentric rotaries.
January 11, 200521 yr I have written a 4 page document that better explains the switch. It is done using open office. Open office is a suite of office programs that are FREE. It can be downloaded at www.openoffice.org. Remember, I am not trying to sell these switches to anyone. I will make the molds available as soon as I have finished modifying the switch. Just give me your e-mail address and I will send you the docement if you are interested. If nothing else, the document shows what can be done and may provide some ideas for others. Milt
January 11, 200521 yr Hello,It appears you can save your Open Office documents that are compatible with Microsoft Products. I am only assuming this from reading the following FAQ from the Open Office website> " When I send someone an OpenOffice document as an attachment, they cannot open it. Why not? This may be because you sent them a file in the OpenOffice file format and Microsoft Office does not (yet) support this format. Unfortunately most people only recognize MSOffice files as the only way to exchange files. To save your document as MSOffice files use the OpenOffice menu "File" => "Save As..." and, from the lower drop-down box select the version of Word or Excel you want to save it in. Be aware that older versions of Word does not always read newer Word documents, but in general the best format to pick is Word97/2000/XP."
January 11, 200521 yr >Any chance I could get a PDF version ?>>pvanagt -AD- skynet -DOT- beMilt, you could save a pdf - it is a good choice of format for stuff you put online. And openoffice can save pdf directly.I agree with you the softare is great.//Tuomas
