March 19, 200521 yr Hey Folks,If I were to go to one of the airplane wreck yards in the US, like Arizona, would I be able to pick a yoke and column off a plane? Also, what kind of prices would I expect to pay?I'm thinking any Boeing style yoke/column.Anyone done this? checked into this? With so many planes sitting around, there has to be something available for grabs.Appreciate any input.Best regardsKev
March 19, 200521 yr Hi Kev,i have some at home!look at my site: http://www.project777.com!I have full set of 2 columns, yoke and linkage.will update my page this weekend, finished linking both yokes!!costs depends from a few bucks to hundrets or thausends.... it depends on where you pruchase them.if you would love to remove them by your own hands, please keep in mind that this is a very complex mechanism beneath the cockpit floor!!!!Best from ViennaHans G. March 20, 200521 yr Hey, thanks for the reply.Yes, I would love to remove it by myself. I'm thinking though, if I only get the upper part, what's visible, I can build the rest myself.Where did you get yours? I don't want to go through a middle man, since it's going to be more expensive. I'd rather go to a wrecking place myself and find and remove it.Do you know what wrecking yards in the US would be the best to contact? Where they would have a good amount of out of service pax jets stored?Getting there would not be a problem. Thanks again.Best regards,Kevin
March 20, 200521 yr Hi Kevin, good questions. I've never been on one of the yards, as I live in Vienna ;-(( !I purchased my parts from J.D. - more on my website. Not to say bad words, but it's not that easy to corporate with J.D. But at least I've been successfull, and got my good parts!!Best from ViennaHans G. SchuetzProject777---------------------------------------http://www.project777.com[email protected](LOWW - Vienna)
March 21, 200521 yr Thanks again, and GREAT sim you got. Love your pics and info. Really cool. I think I can say thanks on behalf of all of us for making all those measurements as well.I've asked for prices from J.D before, and decided I don't want to go through a "middle man", since I honestly think the stuff is WAY over priced. Besides, he and anyone else would want to get paid for picking the stuff out of the planes too.Perhaps anyone else knows what yards would be ideal to go pick parts at????Again, appreciate any input.Regards,Kevin
March 21, 200521 yr Contact Nick at www.oncealoft.com Although still a middle man I found his prices to be reasonable. I know alot of the salvage yards now wont let people other than their employees onto their aircraft to pull parts due to insurance liabilty reasons.Gary
March 21, 200521 yr Hi Kevin,Thanks for your nice words!Yes, nice stuff I got! The seats are top condition!! only 15 years old!!!7 years ago i had another contact to mojave desert. But unfortunately not longer available :-(When my measurements are a help for others, then I am glad. I got that much information from fellow builders and forums like this, so I am glad to give any help back!!Best from ViennaHans G. March 22, 200521 yr Thank you. Joe at Project 727 said the same thing... That's a really cool project by the way if you haven't seen it. www.xsn.net/project727So that's what I'll do.Thanks again to both of you for your help.Kevin
March 22, 200521 yr Hi,Two years ago, I went to Arizona and visited a few yards, no way to get in and take parts out youself, you have to go via a scrap firm.If you are lucky (like I was) try a local little airport where there is an aircraft taken down and try to make a deal with the scrapman.Worked for me ...Taking out Yokes with columns takes about 1 hour if you have good gear.Succes !Marnixwww.projectmagenta.com/dreamflight
