June 13, 200520 yr I was wondering if anyone here has tried their FsXpand/FsClient software yet? It seems like an easy and affordable way to use other monitors for your instrument panel.I'm trying to run it on only my main FS PC at the moment (I guess it's primarily made to use in networked systems), and not having much luck yet, but I sent them an e-mail requesting help recently.I can see the minor drawback of not being able to customize the exact look of the instruments, but they are easy to resize and move, not to mention how it can support so many joysticks through the network, one could work around using a keyboard emulator. No this isn't a free advertisement, I'm just wondering if anyone has used it in their cockpit, and how they like it. I'm still just trying to get it to work!
June 28, 200520 yr Hi XMech,It seems that I have not yet received your e-mail regarding FsXpand. As the developer of FsXpand, I would be happy to help you out. Is there a particular problem?Gert
June 29, 200520 yr Hi Gert,Actually you did respond earlier, I just didn't post here as it seemed noone was really interested. You said that I need a network card installed and running even though I'm trying to run everything on one computer. I activated the onboard network adapter on my computer, and I had to 'allow' access for FSClient through Norton Firewall, and now it's to the point where FSXpand says 'searching for network, or something like that, but then locks up after a while. I think it locks after I get impatient and start pressing buttons. Am I not waiting long enough? I'll have to check the numbers for the network I guess, but I've never dealt with a network before, so I'm in unfamiliar territory now.I'll update further when I get to check it out some more.
June 29, 200520 yr Well, I've tried a few other things but to no avail. I edited the FSXpand cfg file per the FAQ, I checked the IP addresses and ports all jive, I've given access to FSXpand and FSClient through my Norton Firewall, and have it 'monitoring' the port they need as well. I wonder if it's just easier to go through the other computer I intend to use for the instrument display monitors. I guess I'll have to get them networked together, and when they're doing well, try again. I tried to ping the address for my one-computer network, and it just times out. (Should there be any other result for a one-computer network?) So, like I said, perhaps this is easier with 2 systems.
June 29, 200520 yr I'd not seen this app before so I checked it out, looks good.Gert - lots of broken links on your site though, piuctures just showing as 'X' s etc.Richard
June 29, 200520 yr If you want to display an IP on a seperate monitor / computer, take a lok at my FSPanel application in the library - it does just that, thouigh only for a single engine piston - C-172 or similar.Richard
June 29, 200520 yr When you cannot ping your own computer, there is definitely something wrong with your network. It is no use connecting another one, until you have your network up and running. While developing, I my first test is always to run it all on one computer. Nothing wrong with trying that.Did you backup your cfg files? It all should work regardless of manual editing, at least with version 4.2.2. If you are not sure how to configure the network card, let me know. What OS are you using, XP?Gert
June 29, 200520 yr Richard,Just checked it out - see no problem. If it's still the case, please give me an URL...Gert
June 29, 200520 yr But if you want to use gauges in a separate monitor on one computer, just right click the panel on your plane and select "undock window", then move it to the other screen..? Or am I missing something here?//T
June 30, 200520 yr Seems that you use frames as the URL doesn't change as I navigate, but under the URL of http://cockpitsolutions.com/flyware/ at the page headed "How to create your cockpit panel layouts" there are six pictures at the bottom showing 'some of the possibilities'.... the possibilities seem to be limited as the pics are all 'X's :-( The properties links for the pics are showing as file:///D:/Ontw/site/flyware.nl/images/modern_pine_s.jpg for example, instead of a site accessible URL.A couple of the links also show a d:// address instead of an http:// one.Richard
June 30, 200520 yr You can, Tuomas, yes, but then you are stuck with the layout of the MSFS Panel - you can't customize. Both Gerts FSXpand and my (far more limited) FSPanel are really meant to use on a second networked computer though. Richard
June 30, 200520 yr >You can, Tuomas, yes, but then you are stuck with the layout>of the MSFS Panel - you can't customizeUm, please explain? You can customize panels.http://gallery.tigert.com/tigert-albums/ho...t/abf.sized.jpgPiper cub panel ;)http://gallery.tigert.com/tigert-albums/homecockpit/aaa.jpg//T
June 30, 200520 yr Thanks Richard, I'll look into this. d: would be a wrong link to a file, of course, I understand.Gert
June 30, 200520 yr How do you come up with custom panels? (Without using some sort of programming tool like PanelStudio, of course)Richard
July 1, 200520 yr Well, I use panelstudio. But you can do it with notepad as well if you are masochistic enough, it's not impossible. It's just gauge name + size + coordinates in the panel.cfg text file. Look at existing ones for reference. The benefit of regular fs panels is that you can use any gauges, there are lots of interesting ones. Like the combined TCAS/vertical speed someone did for PIC767 that is available on avsim.com, I'm thinking of using that for example.. as well as maybe the reality-xp Sandel, not sure yet.//Tuomas
