fps drop with the GPS

Featured Replies

When I display the GPS the frame rate drop from 50 to 30 fps.Why is the GPS gauge a frame rate killer ?It not use 3D, mapping or other complicated graphicalfunctions ... does it use so many CPU ???Is the GPS from xp Reality better ?Thank'sBOBP4 3.6 1024RAM 6600GT

I don't know, but i would be happy to even reach 30fps... let alone 50...Anyway you could get a better result for your question in the FS General Forum.Or maybe the Panel forum.

>I don't know, but i would be happy to even reach 30fps... let>alone 50...Ditto Claudios response. The Porcupineaka Simon Webbwww.desktopflying.co.ukVery slowely putting together a generic twin desktop unit.

Hi --mine 2 centsThats well known ishue --you can find that even on MS FS FAQ pageMaybe if you would use maxivista you could gain someting --tryed -works- but didnt compareAnd agree--i would be happy to have 30 fps on my system Who needs 50Regards

Hi Bob,Yes GPS does do that. Here is some data from my sim.I have a Parhelia for front view so frame rates wont be like yours butcomparisons may help.Conditions for both tests exactly same.Only thing that was changed was what gps displayed.I display my GPS on a seperate monitor driven froma Matrox Millenium PCI Card.My test was Was Tacoma Seattle Int. sitting on the runway in my Cardinal. With DEFAULT GPS up and no Panel i get 14fps.With NO GPS up fps rise to about 23fps.With XP Reality GNS530 V5 displayed is 22fps " " " " " NOT Displayed approx 20fps.As you can see the gns is significantly better on my system. Not sure evryone would expect the same advanatge but they put quite a bit of effort into V5 to improve fps.I tried setting the GNS image quality both to high and low but there was in significant change.I would expect with the 30 plus you get the increase maybe beneficial.I just turn the gPS off(not power wise) when need extra fps.Xp will be bringing out a networked one some day(no date). This will be the only solution, the cpu ect is going flat tap now with scenery. It doesnt need anymore work to do.Hope this helps,if you need anymore help, just say.RgdsLes

I want to display the GPS on a 7' extra monitor, drived by a client PC so a network version of a GPS would be great for me ...To display it full screen in my monitor i need to remove the button screen around the GPS to keep only the screen, that's possible only if the gauge is in XML. Do you know if reality XP is in XML ?thank'sBOB

take a look at this threadit may help you.http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=11260&PN=1 Sorry cant comment re XML.Les

Do you know if reality>XP is in XML ?>>thank's>>BOBLes already gave a good hint for the "screen only" gps solution, that I also need to check out.But yes, the MSFS built-in GPS is completely XML and probably the most impressive xml gauge I have seen. Sure, it may not look exactly like the real one, but hey, it does quite a lot nevertheless. The functionality is pretty cool, the only real missing feature that really matters to me is the possibility to input flight plans from the knobs right from within the gauge.. Which sucks, since that's one of the things I want to get familiar with, thus I am going the RealityXP route as well. The RXP GNS uses the Garmin trainer software program "swallowed" inside their gauge, thus it is not XML.There was the FSGarmin program by the way, for FS2002 that got released as freeware, anyone remember that? It actually had the possibility to run as a separate app, thus with widefs you could run it on another computer. Has anyone used it on FS2004? Since it uses FSUIPC, there really shouldnt be a reason why it shouldnt work...Last I checked, it was in the avsim file library...//Tuomas

Hi TuomasAs far i know--thats works with Fs2004 and can be networkedNot supported anymore by developers but there is a users forum on AvsimRead to FSFightmax and Fsgarmin forum treads on this siteRegards

Yeah, that's what I thouhgt. Valid alternative too then.//T
