Multiple DELL Monitors. How do I do it?

Featured Replies

I will be using my existing 24" DELL Widescreen and would like to purchase two 20" Dell Widescreen monitors. I currently have two NVIDIA video cards in SLI configuration. I would like to know how I can set up FS2004 with this type of setup?

I am not too familiar with the SLI setup that you have, other than understanding the basic SLI concept, but here's what I'm doing with an ATI Radeon 800SE, which has a DVI connector and a VGA one:- VGA output connected to 800x600 video projector for out-of-window view (I'm looking fwd to getting an XGA projector someday)- DVI output connected to 19" Dell monitor for instrument panel- 2nd PC, with 17" Dell monitor, networked to my main PC (that has the 800SE)For the 2nd PC, I basically have three options:- run remote, non-FS9 "gauge" instruments and utilities, e.g. Project Magenta/ActiveSky/etc., via WideFS- run applications (I'm using Jeppesen FliteDeck, which is a real-world IFR chart/approach plate program) that are driven by serial port GPS data generated by the main PC. I'm using Pete Dowson's "GPSOUT" program to make this work, and it works great!- use "MaxiVista" to utilize the 2nd PC's display as a third display for the main PC. This works well with 2D panel gauges and the like, but is not at all suitable for any 3D views.Obviously my setup involves a 2nd PC, which you may not be interested or able to take advantage of. I just wanted to point out that there are other multi-display alternatives to running everything on one PC. Futhermore, the 2nd PC does not need to have bleeding-edge performance. My main machine is a 3.4gHz HT P4, but the 2nd PC is "only" a 2.7gHz Celeron P4 that I bought for less than $500 as a refurbrished unit a couple years ago.pictures: http://blave.smugmug.com/gallery/626094/1/29565361The (fuzzy) shot on the right shows the MaxiVista program serving a 3rd display to my 2nd PC.BTW, I wish I had your SLI cards in my main PC! 8^)Dave Blevins

To save my fingers from som extra wear, I'm pasting this from another response I just gave regarding multiple monitor setups, and hopefully this is the kind of info you're looking for.I have a Radeon All-in-wonder 9600 8x AGP, and a Radeon 7000 PCI. In tests getting ready for my sim, which is finally taking physical form in the garage, I have successfully run the outside view from the 9600, and a C172 panel I made with FS Panel Studio on 2 other monitors from the 7000 card. I did have to buy a DVI to VGA adapter to run the 2 monitors from the 7000, as it has 1 video, one VGA, and one DVI output. (I think it's called DVI. I guess it's for some LCDs. I thought they used VGA, but like I said, I'm no computer wiz.) Anyways, the 2 screen panel has pretty much all the default C172 gauges, and the GPS always displayed, and I drag the ATC window over the GPS as well. It's actually one main panel and one pop-up panel each displayed on their own monitor, and each made to fill the entire screen. I saw little to no frame rate loss on my first flight using this setup, and I'm pleased with the results.I'm happy with this setup. You could run 2 monitors from the 9600 if you only intend to have one monitor for instruments, but I'm going to run a 27" TV (with a 40" wide fresnel lense) from it, and it can't run extra monitors while outputting to a TV, or so the instructions say.Hope that's what you were looking for. Good luck!

Yea. This has also been discussed a lot before, so instead of a "bump" a "search" would work better ;)Anyway, to sum it up: 1 outside view per PC. Parhelia and some other cards can give you a _stretched_ outside view accross 2-3 monitors. But for more than that, you need more PC's and www.wideview.it//Tuomas
