I have one of the early 128mb Parhelia's, and have downloaded the latest drivers from Matrox but when I try to install them, I am told that the existent drivers are better? This is impossible because the one's in there now, are from the original CD? Does anybody know of a way of getting these new drivers installed without getting blocked. Is there another way in - or some trick as the current drivers are out of date! Here's hoping.TONY GERARD, Plymouth, U.K.

Tony,I have three Parhelias ranging from very early to about a year or so.Have not had any prob wuth installing any driver.Did you uninstalvia control panel before loading new drivers. This is the preferred way.If that does not work,go to Matrox site and to thei.r download area and they have a utility listed for completely uninstalling their software.Have used this method also.I think its called pduninstall.Hope this helpsLes

Or do you mean that you have had three parhelia's? If indeed you use three, where are they installed - I presume that you network PC's - and put them in seperate machines?I would be interestred to know how you use them? Thanks for the tip.Good simming.TONY.

Hi Tony,Yes i have three Parhelias in use, total 9 monitors.Use Wideview on three pcs and use a fourth networked pc for Fsbus, iocards,Fslcd,Project magenta GAIFR gauges(only till i finish building my gauges) and Pocketfms(moving map, flightplanner ect(free) still under developement.Yes performance is down on a single headed cards but when you have this display lined up it looks awesome.Yes this setup is far from perfect, but i enjoy it and accept its limitations.I also have 3 extra PCI video cards in the Server which drive myReality GNS530 and Weather Radar or Concorde panels when im not flying the Dreamfleet Cardinal. For your interest,i used to run in full screen mode, but docking and undocking views to other monitors was a real pain compared to Fs2002.So i went to windowed mode.Have no trouble with putting panels on theseextra cards and they are always there when i start FS9 up. I know you were having some issues with multiple monitors. If i can help in any way, just ask.Ive tried a few different things from Data Projectors to monitors and currently trying out the LCD on top of aOHP.Rgdsles

Hi again Les.Thanks for your email. You say you once used multiple monitors with extra cards installed and with 2004? I have tried windowed mode and undocking gps to another monitor. If I enlarge the image to full screen size on this monitor, the system packs up and the blue screen appears! The only way I can stop this happening is to keep the gps (or whatever gauge I have undocked and moved) down to the size of a match box - which is no good at all!. My system is pretty good - 3.5g processor AV8 3rd eye board and 2g ddr ram. Any thoughts?Thanks.TONY.

Hi Tony,It pretty hard to suggest much without knowing much about your system.Something doesnt sound right with your system if it Blue screens in fswhen you try to enlarge an undocked image.A wee while back you were running SLI with two Video cards. Are you still doing this.My experience with this mode is limited.May suggest to try and go back to a more standard configuration and try again. One thing i have found out that if you start having major crashing when trying to configure FS9 your FS9.cfg file can become corrupt and cause numerous problems.Suggest you backup your current file and then delete it.Fs9 will automatically generate a new one which you will have to reset to your preferences.I always have a backup of my cfg file after reloading fs9 and setting it up before experimentation.Have you tried uninstalling FS9 and reloading. With all your experimenting, you may have corrupted it.Try the above and see how you go.Try and give us a better idea of what your system comprises,Video cards, how many, what configuration. If you are using two cards, drop back to one and see if you get stabilityand you can reliably undock panels. When i have probs like you i try and go back to something very basic, pcs are funny things, very easily confused.Let us know how you go.RgdsLes

Hi Les (and all),My current system is -Abit AV8 3rd Eye Motherboard.AMD 3500 64bit ProcessorKingston 1024mb PC 3200 (2)Enermax 600 watt PSUWIN XP home (with SP2)Matrox 128mb Parhelia.Matrox Milleniem PCIMatrox G450 duel head PCI.The SLI route was abandoned as un-necessary.I am not sure what you mean by configuration of my video cards? I install the card itself and use the cd to put the drivers in. I am afraid that that's the limit of my knowledge in this area. What would I have to do to go further and as you say "configure"?I have tried the system with Parhelia and just one extra card (to undock to), and as soon as I undock, and move the undocked window away from the outside view(Parhelia)onto the extra card's monitor, the system stops - and the blue screen appears!!I can display as many extra windows (GPS,Radio's etc etc)on the main screen as I want - but as soon as I move anything to another monitor - trouble starts? The basic system (no extra cards)works fine - but no use to me as I need extra monitors for instruments. In 2002, I have had as many as three extra cards in the PC - all working without any problems at all?I have never been near the FS9cfg file (bit frightening!), but I have re-installed FS9 a couple of times along with the update patch. I made sure that the update patch BACKUP was removed before re-installing (per the book). I presume that this would provide a new un-corrupted cfg file (no need to fiddle with the frightening bit?It has been suggested that the motherboard might be a problem? When data (gauges) are displayed using another graphics card along with Parhelia's output - a "log jam" may occur on it's way to the processor? This sort of thing is beyond my understanding - but thought I would mention it.What do you think guys? Don' suggest networking - I would rather take up knitting!!!!TONY (gaining some white hair!)

Hi,I run a similar setup to you except i run 3 Millenium PCI cards. Two further suggestions,1.Are you running with the latest Parhelia drivers,if not download from matrox and uninstall via control panel/add remove programs. Then install new ones.2.Go to Abits site and download there latest Motherboard drivers if you havnt done so.3.What drivers are you using for the Matrox cards?4.Have you tried just installing the Parhelia and Millenium card.If not try this after having done 1 and 2 above.Yes it could be an incompatability problem.I know with my Asus K8VSEmotherbd that any vid card that i threw at it,never have i had Blue screens. When you get the blue screen what module does it say is at fault.Or does it just lock up the system. My hair is already grey, probably from solving many problems like yours.Hang in there though. There is always a reason, one other thought, can you try any other PCI card other than Matrox. If you are not sure about anything let us know and will try and walk you through it.Another thing comes to mind,a lot of Motherbds have a top performance mode available in the bios,if you are having troubles, its not a good idea to have this enabled.Ill have a look at the manual for your mthbd and check.See how you go with the above.Les

Tony,I had a look at your motherbd manual.I would like to suggest one more thing.Do you feel happy about going into the bios and loading something. The procedure is basic and may help.try this,Powerup and hit DEL button to get into the Bios.If yore not sure your manual explains very well. What i want you to do is to select Load Bios Fail safe defaults.Just highlight this option with the arrow keys and hit enter.A message will appear asking you if you want to and a Y should be flashing.Hit enteragain and you should be back at bios menu then hit F10 to save it.Now go into windows and FS9 and try it.The reason for this is that your Bios has the option of changingPCI bus speed. It is possible that this may be higher than the cards youre using can handle.I am hoping that by loading Fail safe parametersthat anything like this will default back to safe conditions. It is usual for System builders(i do it myself) to clear Cmos and loadOptimised defaults before loading the OS.I dont know if this has beendone. With new motherbds no one really knows what state the bios has been left in.If the above helps then you can repeat it but this time loadthe option that says Load Optimised Parameters. If you feel unhappy about changing your bios, please read the manual regarding the Guru Utillity. It talks about the relationship betweenAGP bus speed(66megs) and PCI(33).Yours should state FIXED.Otherwise this could cause you problems. The last alternative is to ask the computer shop you got it from to check out what i have said.Sorry for the long post.Very hard to say what you want in a few words.Let us know how you get onRgdsles

Hi Les!I re-installed WIXP and tried again! Still no luck -THEN I noticed that removing the plugs from an extra USB card installed - things started to look better. My up-graded PC already has six USB sockets, so I did not need the add-on USB card anyway!! (why was it put in? don't ask me!) My USB inputs are from - Go Flight stuff and a hub for more stuff. Now as an experiment, I loaded FS and in windowed mode, undocked the gps to another monitor as well as (as an experiment) the radio stack to yet another monitor. This should have blown the lid off - but it worked ok EXCEPT that I am getting a tenth of a second pause on the outside view - every few seconds of running? My PCI cards are Matrox millenium, and Matrox G450 dual head (using one head). This gives me two extra monitors for undocked stuff. I think the G450 may be causing the problem, because the simple PCI Millenium seems ok.I Have ordered another millenium in hope that with the two of them installed, the problem may cure itself??Has anybody come across the faltering on the ouside view at all? Any idea what might be causing it?Here's hoping when the the other Matrox Millenium PCI card arrives! Thanks as always.TONY.
