April 16, 200620 yr Hi,What are builders using for an intercom system in most simpits? I would like to construct an intercom/transmit system that mimics the real plane, in terms of hot mic intercom with PTT to transmit when flying with voice on VATSIM.Has anyone accomplished this, and with what hardware and software? Thanks SO much!!!!!!MT
April 16, 200620 yr Hi,This isn't quite what you asked for, but it's as close as I have run across. http://mypage.direct.ca/b/bsimpson/simcom.html Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.com
April 16, 200620 yr For a single person cockpit I use just a headset (mic + headphones, actually wired my aviation headset to the PC, but that's a different thing (*)) - then I have one button from my input hardware (iocards) that outputs the squawkbox PTT keypress when I press the PTT button. For multi-person intercoms it might become a bit more interesting, Mike's example might work. Or if you have two identical headsets, it *might* work with an Y-cable, but I am not sure if that might cause problems, so don't try to sue me if the magic smoke escapes from the computer :)(* http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/howto/adapter.htm )//T
April 17, 200620 yr Hey,I actually have 4 David Clark H10-20's in my airplane (Piper Archer II), and I think that the plane could spare a couple for testing etc. Might be fun to wire them up thru a board.......Any other Ideas, and I'm all ears.....(pun kind of intended)...MT
April 17, 200620 yr Of course one option is to get a real intercom from aircraft spruce (those are not _that_ expensive, if you have real headsets to use in the sim anyway) - then you just need to figure out the connection of the intercom into the computer, but I am sure it can be done, all it takes is someone knowledgeable in audio electronics you can consult.Real headsets are a nice added touch to the sim anyway, and one can get some slightly older ones for sim use kind of cheap anyway.//Tuomas
April 17, 200620 yr PC Aviator sell a headset adapter so you can use your real headset in FS. I dont know if it splits the atc sounds or not though. http://www.pcaviator.com/shop/viewCategory.php?s=0&c=10Gary
April 18, 200620 yr >PC Aviator sell a headset adapter so you can use your real>headset in FS. I dont know if it splits the atc sounds or not>though. It doesnt't - but for people who care about ATC I want to recommend VATSIM (www.vatsim.net) or IVAO (www.ivao.aero) - it's a TON more fun to fly with real people as other planes and controllers, in a virtual air traffic network. Both networks have FS add-on modules that implement radio voice systems, and you can select which audio device to use for ATC. Thus it is possible to have airplane sounds come from the stereo system and have a headset for ATC.//Tuomas
April 21, 200620 yr Have a look at http://www.rst-engr.com/ You can find schematics for intercom's and audio panels.Orhttp://www.aeroelectric.com/articles/Rev11/18Audio_R11.pdfORhttp://www.ase.uc.edu/~munday/intercom/intercom2.txthttp://www.ase.uc.edu/~munday/intercom/intercom3.txthttp://www.ase.uc.edu/~munday/intercom/intercom1.txt
