January 2, 200719 yr Hi guys,I just updated my site with info on how to build this switch. I found a rather easy and effective way to make it behave just like in the real plane...Go to www.hanskrohn.com and check the site news.Regards and happy new year!Hanshttp://www.hanskrohn.com/BuildingTips/EngS...gSwitch10_s.jpg
January 2, 200719 yr A very impressive work that keeps this hobby at a high level. Thanks for all these ideas that people like you are giving us (more or less beginner).Regards,Bob
January 3, 200719 yr >is it neccessary for the walls to be so>high?yes.I have backlighting on my OHP, and the PCB that holds the LEDs is at a distance of 4 cm from the panel.Check my website, I just put a photo of the switch assembly, installed behind the panel.Regards,Hans
January 3, 200719 yr HansWhat a beautiful design. Do you have the drawings in a dfx format? (Corel draw can export .dfx AFAIK). Then I could make them with my cnc machine. Or , if this is not possible, I would be pleased with the diameter of the biggest part, then I could find the rest of the measurements myself. If I understand your design well, then the big part is tightly fitted to the 12 positiion switch, but the small lever (that connects to the selonoid can move freely around the switche,s ax?Do you have a partnumber for the selonoid at conrad?I use FSBUSNG, with what electronics do you interface the selonoids?Perhaps I will adjust your design a bit. Drill a hole from behind in the 12 position switch of 3,2 mm. Make screwthread M4 in it. Turn a long M4 bolt in it. Then I will fit your device from behind to the bolt. Fit the selenoid with clear plexi to the rest of the panel. So the backlight will shine through.Again many thanks sharing this gem with us.regardsNorberthttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch/
January 3, 200719 yr Hi Norbert, thanks for the flowers! :-)The Conrad # is 503612 - 62, HUBMAGNET TYP TDS-10A, 12 VDCYou are right, the big part is glued to the switches axle, the small (transparent) part must move freely.I did not yet interface it. I will use either EPIC or OpenCockpit for that. Certainly a relay must be used, and a "Entstoerdiode", because the magnet creates quite a spark. Before you start all that drilling, check my site. I put another pic with the unit installed behind the OHP, and mine is also backlit!Best regards,HansPS: I will upload the Corel Draw file to my site. I did not draw the side walls though, they are made "the old fashioned way..."
January 3, 200719 yr ... it's done. The Corel Draw (V12) file is uploaded. Check on the Eng Switch page, right beside the schematic drawing.Regards,Hans
January 3, 200719 yr Unfortenately I do not have Corel Draw. Could you try SAVE AS and look wheter there is the .dfx option or .dwg (autocad). Many thanksNorbert
January 4, 200719 yr Thanks a lot for the cad file.I would be very pleased if you would update this thread when the switch actuallt works and could give us an update about the specs of the used electronic components (conrad numbers would be great).RegardsNorbert
January 4, 200719 yr >update this thread when the switch actually works>the specs of the used electronic components No problemo! If I find time tonite I will make a video of the switch in action (but not yet connected to my I/O cards). Final installation and programing might still be some weeks away. I build at a rather leasurly pace - Der Weg ist das Ziel! The parts list will be on my site shortly.Best,Hans
February 7, 200719 yr Hi Hans,I see you got it working. I ordered mine from Conrad. (the article number you gave me). When I read the datasheeth it say "die magnete werden direct aus 230 V gespeist".Does that mean I have to put 220 V on them? I thought they were 12 V?How do you do this electronicaly? When N1 has a certain limit then you put 12 V on the magnet and it pulls at the switch? Do you use a relais for that? I use FSBUS, I hope that can be used too.regards Norbert
February 7, 200719 yr Norbert,Quick question off topic. Where did you get or how did you make your knobs for the overhead.I've finished my 777 overhead panel and now have to populate them.ThanksDavid
February 8, 200719 yr Hi DavidHave a look here and scroll down. You still have to get/buy your first one.http://home.hccnet.nl/jwopdenakker/building%20tip.htmlNorbert
February 8, 200719 yr Hi Norbert, something must have gone wrong with your order. The magnets I use are 12 v, not 230v!Here is the conrad part no. again: Artikel-Nr.: 503612 - 62Description: HUBMAGNET TYP TDS-10A, 12 VDCPrice is around 10 Euro.Regards,Hans
