I am shortly getting a new PC with Windows XP. I currently run FS2002 on my existing PC under Windows 98 (original version). I thought I would instal FS2002 from CD onto the new (XP) PC; but I wondered whether I can then copy files from the old PC onto the new PC using a USB cable to transfer data. I have about 3 gigs of aircraft and sounds (but no add-on scenery) on my Windows 98 copy of FS that I'd like to place onto the new PC. Will such copying create any problems or conflicts?Appreciate any advice on this, thanks!JS

Just been there, done that, with over 20GB of stuff. You're right in that you should install first from the CD, to ensure a clean, full install; then you can move across what you need to. To my knowledge, there is nothing in AIRCRAFT or SOUNDS when you move them across that is likely to upset the applecart if you're running FS2002 already; remembering, of course, you'll need to move over GAUGES as well, presumably.It's all the little tweaks you might have made that you need to be careful about: clouds, texture swaps, etc. I am sure others will comment further.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

One more important point, though, JS ... if are moving any scenery or similar stuff across to SCENERY or SCENEDB .... make sure you run your new installation of FS2002 at least once on the new machine before making any changes or additions to the folder, in order for it to build its basic libraries. Otherwise, you'll confuse it.It's fun to run a clean install again, anyway. Mark:Thanks for your post. Yeah, I guess I will be copying GAUGES as well. I won't have any add-on scenery to copy at least. I have PHNL by LAGO and I may try to reinstal that on the XP PC.I shall try to enjoy the luxury 50 fps first of all with no add-ons because I have this feeling that as soon as the PSS stuff and other dense add-ons go on the HD, I'll see fps fall "inexplicably" !Thanks again.JsP.S. To those who saw my post questioning the value of upgrading recently, I must confess that I suddenly and finally caved after a year of planning. So here I go with yet another $2K upgrade. But it's been almost 4 years since the last PC purchase so I feel less guilty because of that !
