The new upstart, which operates a fleet of Boeing 737 jets on select routes throughout the Western U.S. from it's Los Angeles hub, began service on 1 May of this year.http://www.flywestexpress.com/postings/b739_app.jpgCEO Scott Sherman seems very upbeat about the airline's progress to date and it's future. "We've been meeting or exceeding several key operational and marginal goals since May, providing us with a strong foundation to continue growth," he noted. "Our initial routes have proven to be very popular with our customers, and our frequent flier base has been steadly growing at a rate of about one new member per day since launch." ExpressMiles, the airline's unique frequent flier rewards program, was said to be one of West Express' key success gauges before launch. At the conference, the airline's vice president of operations, Carlos Perea, discussed short term expansion plans and goals for the remainder of 2007. "Our launch destinations have been very successful, with near 90% loads on the great majority of routes. We have been researching several new destinations from our hub at LAX, and plan to launch several new routes within the next month, such as Chicago and New York among others." He went on to explain, "Breaking into major business centers early will help us build brand recognition and further grow our frequent flier base."Perea also announced that West Express has sent out a request for proposals to the major aircraft manufacturers for 70 to 100 seat jets. He noted that the current favorites were the Brazilian Embraer 175 and the Bombardier CRJ-705 NextGen, but did not suggest when a decision would be made. Questions regarding service plans for these aircraft were refused."We are fortunate to have such a professional and successful airline. Great growth plans, great product," remarked Executive Vice President Steven Kimball. "We are in this for the long term."ABOUT WEST EXPRESSWest Express Airways, founded in 2003 and relaunched in May 2007, currently provides high-level service to several popular destinations from Los Angeles, CA.
