March 9, 200224 yr Anyone be interested in assisting with a FREEWARE "VA Automation" program? Since the basis for a good VA has little to do with automation and more to do with the quality of the staff and activity provided. Here is my proposal. I am planning to contract a programmer(s) to create a full featured VA Automation program, with or without the help of the existing VA community. Once complete, it will be offered as FREEWARE! If any programmers would like to contribute, your efforts will be greatly appreciated and recognized. I would ask that any and all ideas be posted here for all to view. If you have a feature you would like to see, post it here. I will check this site daily and keep you all posted on the progress. One last plee! If you are willing to share your Automation ideas and or talent toward a FREEWARE VA Automation program, please post immediately. Thanks!
March 11, 200224 yr I can't speak for development or administration and whatnot, but as far as member useability is concerned...Meridian has a WONDERFUL automated system that they probably whipped together on their own. IMHO, that should be the basis for things going forward.Of course, not being a programmer, I have no idea how many hours went into creating their system... but it sure works nice!-Greg
March 13, 200224 yr Read my reply to another post asking for just such a system...I would be willing to lend a hand, if the system is created using languages I know (or can pick up eaily and have commercial value to me in real life, as programming is my profession as well).I advise you to first draw up a specification of features and running environments you want. Will you want a web-interface? If so, where would it run and what would be available for use on the server (what database(s), which or any of CGI, Perl, PHP, JSP, etc.).What functions should the program have? What input and output would be needed?Etc.At that stage, a designer/programmer can come in and see whether the whole thing is feasible within the restrictions you set (a web-application without any CGI-like tools is quite impossible, and you'll surely need a database of some sort). For a desktop application, would it need to run standalone or over a network? etc.
