To what extent does FS2002 use DirectSound3D (as opposed to the 2D sound produced by DirectSound)? I'm wondering whether it is worth my while upgrading my sound system for FS2002. Currently I'm using on-board sound - C-Media 8738-based on an Asus MB with VxD drivers under W98SE (just in case anybody's using WDM drivers under W98SE, I found that when using that driver FS2K2 frame rates took a real hit on my system - confirmed by Audio Winbench 99's CPU utilisation figures, which were 2-3 times higher with the WDM drivers).ThanksPhil

I have the C-Media 8738 on a Soyo Dragon+ MOBO. I discarded the VxD driver in favor of the better WinXP style (WDM) drivers. They solved a lot of crackling problems. Visit C-Media at http://www.cmedia.com.tw/ , download their latest drivers and install them. You might want to uninstall the drivers you now have first, then install the new drivers. If you are using only Win98 make sure you download the correct version. If you are also using WinXP, get those as well. Last time I visited them, they were up to v.639
