OT: More XP SP1 Funny Business?

Featured Replies

I'm perplexed. First MSJAVA was in, then it was out, now it's back in apparently (but going back out in the next release of Windows). Don't you just love lawyers???I gave up on Micro$qua$h w/ regard to Java VM's long ago, but it seems that IE6 SP1 (included in XP SP1) actually "snubs" Sun's VM if it's detected. I now find that IE6 will simply close (without error) if the Sun Java plug-in is enabled and Java of any kind is loaded from a webpage.I've tried unregistering MSJAVA.DLL without luck. It's like the browser is shutting itself down in response to Sun's plugin being loaded.Has anyone encountered this?I become increasingly more annoyed with XP SP1. First, FSAA is snubbed - then Microsoft Java VM is crammed down my throat?Blah.J

>Ya can always buy a MAC or change your OS to Linux!!! MAC? Ewwwwww. ;-)Suriously, have you tried deleting Sun's Java Virtual Machine? I had it installed before I installed SP1, then deleted it once I installed SP1. M$'s Java Virtual Machine has worked like a charm. MS is the only VM that works with SP1 (I received confirmation of this off a Microsoft usenet forum). Microsoft's VM is the ONLY VM which is compatible with IE6 SP1. Unfortunately, it's based on a much older Java standard. I do Java development, so having the latest bits from Sun is important to me.I just wish the bloody corporate lawyers would stop making this Java mess so unnecessarily complicated.Back to Netscape, I guess...J
