No wonder I like Airbus...

ALPHA Climb continuosly with flaps down to cruise altitude...only in an Airbus folkshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/47286.jpg

I like Airbuses, but why in the world would you want to climb all the way to cruise with flaps out? Why does it matter that you 'can.' Never mind the fact that probably you can't do that IRL; just in the sim because of the poor damage modeling in the sim ;)

Name one Boeing or MD transport category flying at ALPHA while climbing with flaps out...now I know why I fly Airbus. If in this situation as a result of upset I can be sure not to stall it out.By the way, the flaps fly at Indicated airspeed as does the wing which is why an airplane stalls at any airspeed respective to altitude and at only one AOA or a graded AOA if a Piper driver.The Airbus logic is far superior to Boeing or MD...long live Airbus LOL ; ^ }

With that sort of attitude you're asking to start a war over control philosophy. I recommend not saying stuff like that. There are some of us out there that believe in real stick and rudder flying, other than Boeing vs. Airbus stuff, for that matter.Alpha climb mode my foot. Just means that the pilot can let the plane fly itself with factors like flap position taken into account by the autopilot computers. Any good pilot can hold an airspeed with the flaps down by controlling the pitch. Like Fred said, it just means that you are going to go slower, since most flap systems are designed for only the lower speed realm of an aircraft's performance curve. And those flaps don't exactly improve on your fuel economy. ;-)
