What to do with those old joysticks...

Recommended Posts

I was rummaging through some old computer junk I had lying around and came across my very first joystick (not counting the TRS-80 :D), a CH Flightstick. I had used it for spare parts once before, to replace the throttle potentiometer that went bad in another joystick. The X and Y axis pots where still there, so I decided to hook it up. It was all jumpy trying to calibrate it, so I opened it up and gave the pots a shot of compressed air and some WD-40. Hooked it back up and it works like new.I don't have rudder pedals, so I'm now using the left/right for rudder, and up/down trim wheel for elevator trim. I used FSUIPC to set the trigger button to turn off auto-coordination when I hold it down, and back on when I release. Now I can properly land in a crosswind. Just as I'm about to touch down, I reach over and squeeze the trigger, slap in the rudder and some aileron, and grease it in! :-kewl :-cool
