crash to desktop

Hi, All of a sudden I am getting crash to desktop. No errors or warnings. It just bombs out of FS2002. I have a P3/800 with 384megs of ram & a TNT2 32 meg video card. I am running Win98SE. Any ideas? This is a fairly fresh install of the operating system. Thanks.Pat Callaghan

hi pat. i've had it happen a couple of times, usually on approach after a low level flight. i'm assuming that "crash to desktop" means it's minimized, as mine will do, and that "restoring" the msfs logo on the toolbar will bring it back "paused". i think its a system memory thing. [not RAM] try to disable all background apps. if on cable, as i am, disconnect [ after weather d/l] and use enditall to close background apps. anything running, antivirus, zonealarm, etc is using resources you want to fly with.[ poor english,, with which you want to fly.] i'm running a celeron766 with a fsb 66 256[max i can install] sdram win98se. also , before you fly, reboot, it will release resources from all apps, then close background apps to give a better starting point for fs2k. tom t

When mine crashes, it's completly bombed out of FS. The program just closes down.Pat

Pat,I,ve had the same problem when I installed Windows XP. What worked for me was to delete the FS2002 config file and then reboot the program. FS2002 will then rebuild a new config file using the new operating system. I have found this to be a fix all for many problems.Best regards and good luck,Jan

Pat,I forgot to mention when I told you to delete the config file that it might be a good idea just to cut and paste the old file to your desk top. This way if you made any changes to the original config (Like using old modules or not showing the brake type on the screen) you can still easily get this info from the old file. I also keep a folder on my desktop with a copy of the last config file that worked properly with my system.Jan
