PC Mark 2002 and what looks like low results

Recommended Posts

First off, my specsAMD 1700 oclckd to 1800ECS K7VTA33 mobo512 DDR RAMGeForce 3 Ti 20040 GB 7,200 HDWin XP14" monitor!I've run both PCMark and 3D Mark and I think I've got lower results than what I should be getting. I know that numbers don't mean much, but I don't think I'm getting all I can from FS2K2.My PCMark scores are 4605 CPU, 2889 memory and 463 hard drive. When I look at the system info. under memory it lists 512 MB RAM, but lists three sticks of 128 RAM at 0 freq. I don't understand why it does this. I've got three slots on my mobo, but using only two, each with 256 RAM in them. How do I make sure my RAM is running at the speed it does, I thought it was just automatic.Anyone with a similar system, maybe someone who's tweaked their system that can give me an idea of their settings; mobo, memory, WinXP, vidcard, etc. I'm using GeForce tweak, I've got a 2.79 swapfile in it's own partition, Win XP is on it's own partition, with no programs installed on it. My 3D Mark scores are real low too, usually I can compare them to a much slower computer. Any help? Not sure what settings to tell that would help. Thanks,Joe

Hey Joe,I don't think these benchmarks make a rats butt of difference when it comes to simming.I am happy with my system right now, I plan on overclocking it a little when I get my new heatsink/fan combo. My PC2002 marks are lower than yours. Heres my compare URL. My system is running at default FSB etchttp://service.madonion.com/compare?pcm=296162Heres my 3D Mark 2001 result. My system was a little overclocked to get this score.http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=3423088

Hi John, On your 3dmark compare page it shows that you have DX8.0 even though you are running XP, XP ships with DX8.1 so I am scratching my head, add to this your Card didnt run the pixel shader test, which is odd since oyu have the GF4TI card and somthing that only DX8.1 will allow. So, it seems you might need to re-install DX8.1.Just a thought.Take CarePaul

I noticed your results, and I agree, overall I'm happy with my frame rates in FS2K2. But sometimes, in detailed scenery like Gary Summons' London Airports, with lots of AI my computer is begging on it's knees for mercy. I know that I can't expect to have great scenery, great panel, and lots of AI aircraft, but I've been paying lots of good money for equipment, FS2K2 and other software and I've started to expect great frame rates for the money I've spent. I may have unrealistic expectations. Thanks,Joe

Hey Paul,Weird thing is, on the PC Mark 2002 info it says I am running DX8.1 and the 3D Mark 2001 says DX8.0I am sure I installed DX8.1 before running 3D Mark.. weird :-hmmm(EDIT: See attached screenshot..)

OK,(Scratching head again)I can only conclude that you ran 3Dmark 20001 instead of 3Dmark2001SE as SE is the DX8.1 enabled program. Is that correct?Paul

Paul,Yep, thats correct. I downloaded the new version last night and it ran all the tests, reported DX8.1 etc. I really need a more ideal cooling setup than I have now. My Thermoengine doesn't cut it when it comes to overclocking. I try a higher FSB and my PC will boot, but doesn't detect the HDD :-eek
