July 5, 200223 yr I have a serious problem here: When I choose a Logitech device in the gamecontroller window in windows my computer locks up. It's only Logitech that does that but that's pretty un-practical since my joystick is a Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital...The problem started after I upgraded my computer this monday. After the upgrade I had to re-install Windows(98) because it wouldn't start properly. Just locked up while booting. My new system:ECS K7S5A mobo, AMD Athlon XP1800+ CPU, 256MB DDR RAM, Leadtek Winfast GF4 MX440 graphics card w/ 64MB DDR, Soundblaster PCI64V soundcard. If I've forgotten someting important, ask for it...Please help me someone!
July 6, 200223 yr Just reloading an operating system, such as Win98, WinXP, is not sufficient. Your MOBO controller chips, the other on-board and plug-in cards, and attached peripherals have software requirements that may or may not be covered by the OS.Before plugging in any joysticks, yokes, printers, etc., you need to make sure what's inside your computer is working properly. Since you installed a fresh copy of Win98, you need to install all the updates either by CD or Windows Update Site. You also need to install all the controller chip software, i.e., VIA, Intel, Sis, etc. You need to check device manager for any contentions, e.g., "!", "?", "X". If you have contentions, you need to resolve them. You should also try to make sure each device has its own IRQ, especially graphics adapters, and sound cards should not share IRQ with each other or other peripherals. You need to install the software for your graphics adapter and sound. You may need updated drivers to operate with FS2002 as it is graphics intensive. After you are satisfied that your computer is operating at its peak without attached peripherals, it is time to install peripherals one at a time. Ensure each peripheral is operating properly before installing another. As for your Logitech device, Win98 may not have the proper driver and you may need to download updated drivers from Logitech. Try first with the Win98 drivers. Bill Sieffert
July 6, 200223 yr Problem is partly solved(don't ask me how...). I can select it, the problem now is that when I mark it and click "Properties"(? I have swedish windows but it probably says properties in english. Maybe you understand anyway?)There's an error message saying something like "Internal error - The support(?)files needed can not be found."What files are that? And why are the logitech drivers (Ljoy,LDigital and such) causing my computer to lock up at startup? I tried copying the vxd files from my wingman software disc to "WindowsSystem" where it's supposed to be(?) and when I reboot it locks up while windows is starting. I removed the logitech vxd files and then it started normally. Strange huh? =)
July 6, 200223 yr Niklas,Have you tried re-installing DirectX?Also, you may want to run the System File Checker. (Start Menu, Run, SFC).You may have a damaged file that was not replaced by your re-installation of Windows.Doug
July 6, 200223 yr Thanks for the tip Doug, I'll try that. I installed Direct X 8.1 yesterday evening so that shouldn't be a problem..? Well, I can reinstall it anyway... I guess that wouldn't hurt.. =)
