CH Pedals revisted

Featured Replies

I have the same problem other seem to have with the CH USB pedals deactivating after a certain period of time. For me, they seem to deactivate after about 5 minutes of non-use. As long as I'm moving them every now and then they work fine, but if I get up for a few minutes and come back they are dead and I have to unplug and replug them back into the USB port. One other thing I've noticed is that the right pedal does not zero itself. Even with my feet off it still reads about 7/255 on the control panel calibration utility. I have to press down on the bottom side of the pedal to zero it. I'm wondering if maybe this has something to do with the problem.I've tried turning off the power saving mode in the USB control panel. That doesn't seem to help. Can anyone else with this problem confirm that your's don't zero [email protected]

Matt,The calibration problems might well be linked to this "timing out" problem which I think could possibly be your mainboard or USB hub instead. You don't run a Via 3038 USB host controller on your mainboard do you, as I have had heaps of disconnect problems with this controller when using certain USB devices. The reason I mention this that recently I specifically had two problems with USB devices seemingly disconnecting after a certain period of time. Someone referred me to an excellent website http://www.usbman.com/. At that site, they have a whole series of steps you can follow in order to diagnose problems with USB devices. The two devices I had problems with were a Microsoft Sidewinder FF wheel (disconnecting) and a Hewlitt Packard PSC 950 all-in-one office machine (also disconnecting). The fix for the wheel was to use a different USB port. Apparently on my ASUS mainboard, two ports on the mainboard use a resistor which causes power issues with some USB devices (I actually found that info out from the MS Knowledge Base). The printer problem persisted and I ran through all the diagnostics (bar one) listed on the usbman wbesite but to no avail. Their last "diagnostic" step was to purchase a separate USB adpator card for a PCI slot (I bought a Belkin 2 port PCI card for $49.95 Australian). This card solved the issue and I had no more disconnects. For the record, I have no issues with my CH Pro USB pedals, but I am aware a calibration problem could be either software or hardware related. I would first go to that usbman website and run through all the recomended diagnostics. Also, if your pedals are old or have had a lot of use, the potentiometers might need a clean (they are rated for 2,000,000 hours so they shouldn't have worn out). I wouldn't touch the pedals themselves, though, until you have gone through all the info at usbman first.
