More information about your computer would help. What make, model, original OS unless always WinXP Home, see the minimum requirements sticky at the top of this forum for more info. Did this problem just start or has it been occurring since you owned the computer? Did you update your system or OS recently?Problem 1:You may have a corrupted Windows file that is trying to restart your machine or you may have BIOS set incorrectly.Within Windows, click start, right click My Computer, select properties, select Advanced Tab, Startup and Recovery Section select Settings, System Failure Section - review the options selected. If nothing works, try a recovery/repair by inserting your WinXP Home CD in your harddrive.BIOS, open your BIOS and check for options for restarting your computer from outside sources, such as, modems, NICs, etc.Problem 2:What is BIOS set for the second drive?

windows xp homeAMD CPU XP2000mainboard Epos 8K3A,AMD KT333,DDR333GEFORCE TI4400 128MBHARD DRIVE BARRACUDA 40G 7200rpm512 DDR RAM PC210 GENERICThanks for your reply ,the pc is four weeks old the problem of windows restarting accured after i had the pc two weeks also the restore would not workItook it back and they also thought it was probably a corrupted window setup, they were reluctant to reinstall as this would have wiped my files of 2gigthey reset the "restore" date to commence from the day i returned it,idont know if this is now working as i have had no reason to use itI was hoping a solution could be found so i would not loose my data, will trying the recovery/repair as you suggested delete anything from my hard drive?also if i have to reinstall xp what will that entail, will i have to reinstall mobo drivers etc,i am not very well up on that kind of thingor will it be wiser to let the supplier do itThanks Donps ,the second problem "hard drive"was on my second pc and has been fixed thanks

As far as data, do you have more than one partition on you hardrive, e.g., c:, d:, e:? If so move your data to a the partition other than the one with Windows. You can also use WinXP data transfer for storing your email, favorites, etc.If you do a WinXP recover, you should only repair any problem files. A complete reinstall will probably overwrite all your present settings. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/...to/winxphow.asp to see if there are any answers to your questions.Lastly, I would have thought that your computer would have required a higher speed RAM, such as, PC2700 vice the PC2100, since your MOBO is running the DDR333 bus. I am wondering if you may be having problems via the RAM.
