August 13, 200223 yr Greetings,I recently wiped my drive and reinstalled XP, added all the necessary MOBO drivers etc. I installed FS2002 with only approved 2002 addons. While flying the PIC/PICPOSKY (which I love!) I get the Blue Screen of Death at random times and have to do a cold boot. Sometimes at the beginning of a flight and sometimes near the end. It also freezes with a repititous sound (using other AC in the sim and I have to do a cold boot. I recently put in a 400 WATT power supply (recommended for this system). My system is shown below.TIA for any assistance you might be able to give me!Fly Happy, Fly Safe!Ted "Shureflight" ShureAAL333 - Assistant Hub ManagerAmerican Virtual Airlineswww.flyava.orghttp://ftp.appcenter.net/Shureflight/Pics/AmericanFlagAA.jpgGod Bless America!Proverbs 3:5,6AMD Athalon 1200Asus A7A266400 Watt Power Supply (3 case fans)512 Megs Ram DDR/266 Maxtor DiamondMax 60gigGF3 Ti500 64 Sound Blaster LIVE! August 13, 200223 yr Hi Ted,It's summer time, and your AMD Athlon 1200 is probably running too hot. Check your CPU temp while your running FS2K2. On my server, the idle temp is 48C, and this goes up to 58C under load when the outside temp is high (in the 90s these days). Once you run above 65C, the crashes you describe start to occur. I had them too, and solved the problem with a Thermaltake Volcano 7 copper HS, and improved airflow (more case fans). A cheaper solution is to take the side of the case off and blow air into the computer with a house fan. Hope this helps you.
August 13, 200223 yr Greetings David,Thanks for your reply. I have the utility that probes the MOBO and Processor. After a long day of 3 flights and other activities, it maxed out at 61 C and the mobo was 34 C. I have a double fan power supply and 3 case fans in addition to the cpu fan and vid fan.Oddly, I just finished KBOS-KORD in the PSS74-400 and I had no probs. Huh. I think it is a HW problem - but don't think it is the temp. I am going to try changing sound cards 1st and then vid cards.I will keep you posted as to how the experiments worked. COuld the power supply be of issue?Fly Happy, Fly Safe!Ted "Shureflight" ShureAAL333 - Assistant Hub ManagerAmerican Virtual Airlineswww.flyava.orghttp://ftp.appcenter.net/Shureflight/Pics/AmericanFlagAA.jpgGod Bless America!Proverbs 3:5,6AMD Athalon 1200Asus A7A266400 Watt Power Supply (3 case fans)512 Megs Ram DDR/266 Maxtor DiamondMax 60gigGF3 Ti500 64 Sound Blaster LIVE! August 13, 200223 yr Hiya Ted,Try reseating your grahics card, you can also try and change the DIMM your ram sits in, sometimes the motherboards don't like some DIMM's being used. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
August 13, 200223 yr Hi Ted,Glad your aware of, and monitor, your CPU temp. This has been a problem for many recently. I would tend to discound your PS, and focus elsewhere. Soundcards seem to be a big culprit, particularly if they start sharing IRQs with other PCI devices. Check out your IRQ allocations in System Information. John's advice is good too. I would add that in addition to spare DIMM slots, try moving any PCI cards to a different slot and see what happens.
August 16, 200223 yr Hi!I have been grounded for the last 10 weeks or more.I got a new system with Athlon xp1900 and FS2002 locks up every time.I have tried everything formatting drives reinstalling OS and FS2002 and updating my Graphics card drivers. Now I believe my problem is my Mobo Asus a7a266.Like yoursBetter still I believe it's the chipset, this board uses the Ali chipset which has a lot of problems with graphics Agp implementation. So I just read all the forums and wait till I can buy an Intel CPU with an Intel Mobo and Intel Chipset.Anybody using the A7A266 Mobo without any problems? Please let us know. Thanks allRegardsbahri
August 16, 200223 yr Greetings,I THINK I FOUND THE ANSWER!!!! So, I said to myself. I have basically used the same hardware while having the same toubles under 2000/XP/98SE and now back to XP. I am keeping my fingers crossed but here is what I did.I have tried a couple of VID cards and YES, they are picky about the drivers. Each system is a little different. Where the 23.11 NVIDIA drivers rum smoothly in some systems, I was getting crashes that had the NV_4.disp error on it. I am using the newest 29.xx and at least that problem went away, but I still had crashes. Then I thought that I remembered somewhere that the sound cards can be of issue and I had bought a SB LIVE! Platinum card/Live Drive a while back. I looked around and found one of my puters had a SB LIVE! Value card in it and I decided to swap. WHen I did, I realized that it was basically the same card, but jumpers were sitting on the pins that the Live Drive connected to. So, I thought, why not just leave the power and cable of the Live Drive disconnected and see if that makes a difference...I am now 5 flights (all 4 hours or more) into a new record of no crashes!!! Can it be??? I think so! I couldn't get my FMC programmed in PIC before the system crashed before. Now just smooth sailing and great framerates.I promosed I would update you great folks if I had any luck and (still with fingers crossed) I think I solved this one. Thanks for all the feedback!Fly Happy, Fly Safe!Ted "Shureflight" ShureAAL333 - Assistant Hub ManagerAmerican Virtual Airlineswww.flyava.orghttp://ftp.appcenter.net/Shureflight/Pics/AmericanFlagAA.jpgGod Bless America!Proverbs 3:5,6AMD Athalon 1200Asus A7A266400 Watt Power Supply (3 case fans)512 Megs Ram DDR/266 Maxtor DiamondMax 60gigGF3 Ti500 64 Sound Blaster LIVE! August 17, 200223 yr And...AND????I've had the same problem...only this time I got a blue screen with an actual advisor. It told me to update my video drivers, change my video adapter or doing some other driver related issue. My guess is that it's too dang hot for my 1.0gig to be runnin' with a GeForce2 MX400 64mb. I've changed the drivers twice. Figured out that it was my ATC traffic..it was up 100%. So I lowered it to 33 (default) and it didn't crash. Only until just a few minutes ago. I was runnin' the Golden Eagles 1909 Bleriot Type XI "La Manche" and bang! Up came the blue screen with all the info I just mentioned. My guess is that I need a new video card to handle the graphics with XP and FS2K2 runnin' at the same time (no gettin' around that!). Plus, I live in Phoenix, AZ and right now it's 105 outside, but at least 81 inside my computer room. The first two times my system crashed, it wiped out my HD. The bios didn't even detect the Maxtor HD. Talk about wierd!! So, formatted, fresh install, removed cover from case, used a house fan and blew in air while runnin' FS2K2. Hmmm...now that I've put the cover back on...CRASH!! Sooooo...I think my problem is solved..new video card for sure! Or just a completely rebuilt system! :-) :-) :-) Hope your problem is fixed!!Mike
August 22, 200223 yr Similiar probs here. Anytime I applied full throttle for take off, I'd crash to the BSOD. Finally traced it to my audio, d/l the newest XP drivers and no more crashes. THEN about 15 minutes into a flight, I would get a reboot. What happened there was that I had OC'd my my P4 2.26 to 2.72 at stock voltage. I upped that from 1.5 to 1.55 and no more problems. I've learned that WinXP can be very, very finnicky But when you get it dialed in, it's great.**Sidenote** I plan to OC to the 3Ghz mark now that my Antec TP430 arrived. I'll let you know how I make out.P4 2.26 @ 2.720 160FSB 1.55vAsus P4B533-E 1007biosCorsair XMS3000C2 512MSI Ti4400 29.82 driversWD800JB
