August 14, 200223 yr Moderator James,Whilst fast graphics cards are nice they do have to be used on very fast systems or you are just throwing money away. Unless you have an Athlon 2000XP or a P4 2.0GHz or faster you won't get the best out of the card.Current state-of-the-art is the GeForce4 Ti4600 128Mb card. Several manufacturers sell the card including Creative and Gainward. As for the best place to buy it rather depends where you live. There's not much point recommending a UK source if you live across the pond.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). August 16, 200223 yr Hey James if you are on a tight budget man try looking at a GF4 ti 4200, before you jump to conclusions let me explain. They are cheaper than a 4400 and way cheaper than a 4600. If your familiar with overclocking then thats what it is, but if not ill try to explain really quick. Overclocking is a method of raising your fsb for more speed. Now for this you can buy a GF4 ti4200 and if your computer has pretty good cooling then you can overclock. A good company that allows good overclocking on there ti4200's is Leadtek. Almost all, depends on what mobo, ram, processor you have, are all reaching close or speeds of the GF4 ti4600 you can def. reach that speed and I am sure you can pass the ti4400's speed. Hey its just a way to save money and have great performance. You can find one for under like 190 or 180 US dollars. A nice place to order online is www.newegg.com they have those. Im actually gonna order a GF4 ti4200 from newegg.com when the money flows in. It's most definitely you can almost reach the speed of a 4600 and look how much you are saving. Just a thought to help you out. Thanx. (Many people are not into overclocking and all that stuff, but it's just a thought to help you decide m8.) Pedro
August 16, 200223 yr Pedro - If you're going to seriously OC the card you might want to look for a 64MB rather than a 128MB. The memory is faster in the 64MB card (3.5ns vs. 4.0ns). The Ti4200 is one of the great bargains in a video card. Look around a little and you can find a cheap one. I got this one on sale at CompUSA for US$129.TripNorthwood 2.2a at 2.72Ghz Abit TH7II-R512MB Samsung 40ns PC800Gainward 64MB GF4 Ti4200 300/57030.30's DX8.1 WinXP ProInwin case / Enermax 431W PSU3DMark2001SE = 12055http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4088814
August 16, 200223 yr The Ti4600 is probably the best. But, just based on price-performance alone, I'd opt for a Ti4200. I've had the chance to use both a Ti4600 and Ti4200 in this machine and the difference (no overclocking) in framerates with FS2002 was hardly noticeable. The average over a series of tests was 44 FPS with the Ti4600 and 42 FPS with the Ti4200. Functionally the only difference in the cards is the clock speeds. But there is a huge difference in cost between the two. (If the primary use is other that MSFS, however, the cost difference may not be a deciding issue as other games can benefit more from the faster video card). If you can't find what you want locally I'd recommend www.newegg.com as a reliable source on the web.TripNorthwood 2.2a at 2.72Ghz Abit TH7II-R512MB Samsung 40ns PC800Gainward 64MB GF4 Ti4200 300/57030.30's DX8.1 WinXP ProInwin case / Enermax 431W PSU3DMark2001SE = 12055http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4088814
