August 20, 200223 yr Hi all, Ever since I upgraded to the excellent MSFS 2K2, with either Win 98Se / Win XP, I have suffered from eye strain. Yet I never had this with FS2000! even in 1600 x 1200. I have a Geforce4 Ti 4600, WinXP, AMD 2100 XP, latest drivers. Illyama 19" Monitor. I have redudced my display to 1164 x 864 in 32 bit, but I am still suffering! Will it make any difference if I drop down to 16 bit resolution? Any help would be greatly appreciated as always. Many thanks, Best Wishes, Chris.J.HickmanEGBB
August 20, 200223 yr Dare I say it, but it perhaps has nothing to do with the actual sim, but maybe your eyes have deteriorated ?Do you get eyestrain with FS2000 still ? Do you now run FS2002 with the same resolutions and refresh rates as you did with FS2000 ? Going to 16-bit colour should make no difference at all.Monitor flicker is the main cause of eyestrain, but other factors such as ambient lighting, and particularly not using flourescent lights may help.I have worked on computers 8 hours (or more!) a day for the last 12 years, and my eyesight can change occassionally. One other thing, are you sitting in any kind of air movement ? A slight breeze on the eyes can cause evaporation of the moisture protecting them and cause eyestrain-like symptoms.Otherwise, if it continues, its off to the optician!!RegardsChris EEGBNhttp://website.lineone.net/~flightsimukAvoid AGP texturing = Better Performance ;)
August 22, 200223 yr Check your refresh rate, it may be set a little low. Try something around 70-75 Hz.Matt Matt KaprockiFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
August 23, 200223 yr Hi Chris,Certainly with Windows XP (I don't know about 98), there is a quirk in MSFS2002 such that the reolution is reset to a lower rate when FS2K2 is launched. I normally kept my desktop at 85 KHz, and when I launched FS2K2, the resolution would reset to 75 KHz. I have heard others in this forum claim that their refresh rate gets set even lower (I believe the rate was 60 for them). You can lock the refresh rate in Windows XP, such that you keep the higher rate in 2K2. Just be forwarned that you need to make sure that you don't set your resolution higher than can be supported by your locked refresh rate, otherwise you could toast your monitor. You should be able to find information on how to lock the refresh rate by searching the archive. If you can't find the info, let me know and I'll walk you through it.
October 16, 200223 yr WinXP actually has problems keeping good refresh rates for a lot of programs (usually games). Microsoft have only partially resolved this with the SP1 update. A good program to use to lock XP into the one refresh rate is RefreshForce:[/p][a href=http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/]http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/[/a][/p]
