What's the word on this sound card?In my old P233MX I had a SB Live!, and in my current system I'm using the on-board Cmedia sound (Hiss! Boo!) on this Soyo Dragon+ mobo. For a couple of reasons I want to upgrade to a PCI sound card. I've been planning on installing a SB Audigy Platinum, but more and more, I wonder. This mobo seems to have a reputation for sound problems, popping and scratching mainly, and from what I've read will do that even with an Audigy. But everywhere I look, and for a couple of years now, I see glowing reviews on the Santa Cruz card, especially "for gamers". Also specifically "this card will not pop and scratch on a finicky Soyo mobo". And at about $80, it's a whole bunch cheaper than the Audigy Platinum. But it's about the same price as a run-of-the-mill Audigy. I wanted the Platinum for the breakout box and the remote, but if the Santa Cruz is the way to go, I won't lose any sleep over the missing remote and breakout panel. What to do, what to do... :-hmmm :-zhelp

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

I am using the Soyo Dragon + with dual boot. I do get some pops and crackling on the Win98SE size but never on the WinXPPro side. I haven't checked lately with the Win98SE side but did just recently upgrade the drivers for Win98SE side. They are more like the WinXP drivers now. If you are using Win98SE, try removing the older drivers with *.vxd files and go with the new drivers. They are available on soyo site - www.soyousa.com .For WinXP, I have been installing the drivers from Windows upgrade site.
