WinXP and FS2002: Minimum Memory Required?

Featured Replies

I have XP and am running 520MB of PC2100. When running FS2002 for a long time (in this case, a flight of 4 hours done over about 8 hours, with various pauses), I sometimes find that I almost simultaneously can't switch views, ATC stutters, and I get the shut-down screen. I usually fly PIC, which I know is a resource hog in itself. Whether ATC "talking" is the trigger in this issue, or maybe that's just coinciding with the time that FS2002 has been running. Could this be an issue of too less memory?Thanks-System:P1.8G Northwood256 PC2100ABit BD7AGeForce 3WinXPBruce.

Hey Bruce,I wouldn't think that 512mb of RAM isn't enough, so throw that out. Now if this were ME, I'd download some benchmarking software and start a long burn-in process, and use something like Motherboard Monitor to monitor my voltages and processor temperature (enable logging every 5 or 10 seconds).I had similar problems where I'd enter a game like FS2000 which would lock up, stutter, or just act strange after several minutes. To make a terribly long story short, it turned out to be a faulty, or underpowered power supply. "Wow" I thought in surprise, MBM5 showed my +5vdc would slowly drop to 4.7vdc when things got 'busy' in the game! Without MBM, I never would have seen this! A new 400watt PS from Antec did the trick. So get MBM 5 from the Livewire site and go from there. - Tom
