How much power supply???

Featured Replies

Hi,Soon I'm going to buy/build a new PC and I'm wondering what the minimum requirments for the power supply are. If have chosen a Chieftec case that comes with a 360W power supply. Is this enough or should I opt for the 430W version? I don't care about the extra money, but I do care about the (propable) extra noise. My new system will have the following components:P4 2.8 or 3.0GhzASUS P4G8X (Dual Channel DDR)GF4 Ti 4600Disk, sound, NIC etc.so, is 360W enough?Egbert Drenth

yeah 360Watt should do you ya good. However if you will have multiple CD and hard drives I would go for the 430Watt

>Hi, >...I don't >care about the extra money, but I do care about the >(propable) extra noise. >...You will be surprised how quiet the new well-designed cases are. I have a 430 Antec from their "Plus 1000" series: PLUS1080AMG. It has two fans in the power supply, and a total of four MORE case fans. It houses two 7200 rpm drives, plus the two chip fans (cpu plus video card). And all of this is no more objectionable than a previous Pentium MMX, 200mhz system with one 3gig drive and the single 3.5 inch supply fan. The power supply has a temperature sensing system that kicks up the fan speed only when necessary. It runs at around 1500 RPM most of the time and I have never noticed any increase in noise even during the most intensive simming. The case fans are very quiet.I don't know your particular choice of case manufacturer, but if it is a well-designed modern case, I would go with 430. I would doubt that the fan arrangement for a 360 would be any quieter that that for the 430, anyway....Art.
