November 19, 200223 yr Hi There,I have been looking for a while to buy some GoFlight products. There are some shops in my country, but they are a bit more expensive than the internetshops who sell the GoFlight products.Does any of you have experience with buying GoFlight products via the Internet and shipping them to Europe (esp. the Netherlands)? I know Luchtvaart Hobbyshop as some other shops listed at GoFlight sell them as well. For their (higher) price they also offer a very good service and guarantee, but then again, shipping and customs are not too expensive anymore. Same situation is for Aeorosoft products.I would like to hear your advise! Thanks in advance!Regards, Ferry
November 19, 200223 yr I don't think it's worth the hassle. You have to keep in mind that prices in the US don't include VAT. The factory direct MCP including dutch VAT is $357. Add shipping costs and insurance and you're pretty close to the EUR 375 that LHshop charges for it. I had some stuff come over from the US and it takes ages. You'll get a letter from the schiphol customs service asking stuff and invoices and you have to reply before they send it to you. And if your units happen to fail, you'll have to repeat the whole shipping again.I bought my goflight units at LHshop and I think it's the most convenient way.
November 19, 200223 yr Author Thank you Marty for your reply! I was not aware that the prices did not include VAT. Indeed, then it comes close to the prices of i.e. Luchtvaart Hobbyshop. Thanks for your reply!Regards, Ferry
November 19, 200223 yr Your welcome!I myself have been lured many times into thinking that US stuff is much cheaper. Now I know that it is, but us europeans won't get it before paying our 19% tax. So I would say, rush to the store and spend the money; don't feel bad about it. I bought myself a full goflight rack for over 1000 euro's and at least it's still cheaper than a few lessons in a twin engine plane. LHshop has most components in store. A week ago they had 10 MCP's but 8 of them had already been sold in 2 days, so the stuff sells quickly. There's a complete demonstration setup in the LHshop, but you can also try it out at my place (zoetermeer). I'm using 1 x MCP, 1 x T8, 2 x VRP and 2 x P8.
November 19, 200223 yr Author Yes I know,Sometimes I enter the shop when I am close for my work. They always have to clean the windows in the shop after I leave the shop. Especially the rebuild of the shop is amazing, very very large and impressive! The owner asked me to pre-order the 166-series because of the fact that it sells very well. Maybe I should have done this...Another excuse to visit the shop again!Regards, Ferry
November 20, 200223 yr "...) Luchtvaart Hobbyshop as some other shops listed at GoFlight sell them as well. For their (higher) price they also offer a very good service (...)"Well... not really, in my experience. Some months ago the frame of my recently bought Edimensional 3-d glasses (wireless version) conked out in various ways: switch stopped working, batteries stopped making good contact, battery cover came loose. Since it was well within the warranty period, I phoned them and asked if they would switch the defect wireless frame for a wired one. "Oh yes, no problem," was the answer. "I'll put aside a wired frame for you to be collected in exchange for your defect wireless frame".Next day I had somebody drive me all the way to Aalsmeer (I am handicapped and cannot drive, nor easily travel by train), and at the counter of LHS was given the replacement frame... which turned out to be another wireless one. I asked the pleasantly shaped lady to get the wired one that was put aside for me the day before, but then the bloke whom I had talked to on the phone came around and said: "I've looked it up, and wired frames don't work with the dongle of your wireless set". Gubber clearly didn't know what he was talking about, so I explained calmly that I had also looked it up, and that Edimensional only makes one universal dongle, that is designed for BOTH wired and wireless. However, the LHS bloke insisted, and within two minutes an unholy row developed, me wanting the wired frame that was put aside for me the day before, and the bloke refusing to hand it over, on account of it "not working with my dongle". We became quite angry with each other, to the great discomfort of the pleasantly shaped lady.Well, finally I dug into the wallet and bought a completely new Edimensional set, the wired version this time. While the cash register rang, professional smiles re-appeared on the faces of the sales people. Once home I threw all contents of my new acquisition except the frame into a drawer, connected the new wired frame to my old dongle, and of course it worked. The Edimensional system is designed, it is supposed, it is MADE to work this way! In this particular instance the LHS showed an astonishing ignorance about a product, an unwillingness to listen to a customer, and a sub-standard service. But who can blame them? Like every shop they exist to make money, and in the end they sold TWO Edimensional sets...Be well!Jaap Verduijn.
November 20, 200223 yr Author Wow that is interesting story! Fortunally for me I have not had the same experience. I once bought a chart and one my way home (stuck in traffic) I noticed I had picked the wrong chart. Called them and changed the chart via mail without any problems. The only thing I would like to add that if they really wanted the credits they paid for the stamp. Then I would recommend them for 'servicequality in the program Radar on local TV'. ;-)I agree with you that if you want to change your products and on the phone this is agreed, then you should get your product. If the lady believes this might be a wrong product for you, she can only advise upon. If the consumer insist on having this 'so called wrong one' it is his decision. If Edemensional states they use universal dongles, what's the big fuzz? I think I would react in the same way as you by buying the stupid wired frameset. And afterwards I would send a letter to the shopowner.Unfortunally no other bells then the cashierbells rang when somebody wanted to pay for a replacing product in stead claiming on the garantuee. I know the shopowners reads the avsim forums. Maybe he can offer a satisfying and corrective answer to this situation?Regards, Ferry
