December 11, 200223 yr gonna upgrade from 98se to xp. Which xp drivers are working best for you? Also, anyone know if the via 4 in 1 needs to be changed for my via kt266a mobo?Other tips?Bob Bernstein
December 11, 200223 yr Can't help on your Radeon but you will probably need to reinstall the via drivers. I don't like upgrading from one OS to another, I've had some bad results but others have had success. Are you going to upgrade in place or reformat then upgrade?Other tips! - Download all the updated drivers for graphics, sound, NIC, modem, printers, etc. before you start the process. I recommend you either download the entire WinXP SP1, 138MB (unless your WinXP package is already SP1) or order the CD from MS for $10.00. After installing the OS and SP1, drivers, then visit the MS update website for pre-SP2 updates.Don't start fiddling with apps until the basic computer is stable. Bill Sieffert
December 11, 200223 yr Hi W! THanks for the tips. I have 3 drives on my box, which makes these projects pretty convenient. I try to keep all apps that are in my registry on the c drive, and other stuff on my other drives. That way a reformat is somewhat easier. I plan to do a reformat, just to keep the drivers straight. Thanks for the 'other tips'....I've also learned that good preparation is well worth it for this type of thing. Having predownloaded drivers can be such a help.Cheers,Bob B
December 13, 200223 yr I think the best drivers I had on my Radeon (I got the same one as you) were Catalyst 2.3. I upgraded to 2.4 and it gave me sort of weird probs in FS2002, such as translucent text (It does look pretty cool, but its sometimes hard to read). Also I found out that antialiasing doesn't even work at all with Catalyst 2.4, even if you force it (Not really a problem, since I never use AA anyway).I haven't tried 2.5 yet, they were just released a few days ago I believe. I think your best bet is Catalyst 2.3, or if you want to have current drivers, go 2.5.Remember to install the drivers in this order:1) ATI Capture drivers, don't reboot then install2) ATI Display drivers, reboot3) ATI Control Panel, reboot if necessaryHope this helps!
