December 18, 200223 yr A long story but hopefully with some help a happy ending. 3 months ago I was running AMD 1900+ on a Gigabyte GA-7VTXE VIA-KT266A/VT8233 512MB Corsair DDR2400 and ASUS GeForce3 TI-200 Video. Was Happy with the overall performance especially with Wilco's 767 Pilot In Command Add-on getting around 15-17 FPS in cockpit view in 1600x1200-32 at airports and higher enroute. O/S was Windows ME.Upgraded to full version of Windows XP Home then a week later the CPU cooling fan failed and damaged the 1900+...the vidio card had been causing some interferance on the screen so I dicided to rework the computer....Replaced the 1900+ with A 2400+ and the motherboard went to a Gigabyte GA-7VAX KT400 with the latest VIA chipset. The vidio card was also replaced with the same ASUS GF3 TI-200......Well the interferance on the screen is gone but seems like the overall performance of FS2K2 is worse than before. Must now run 1600x1200-16 or less to get the same performance as prior to the changes. May be that the replacement TI-200 is bad also. Would going to a GF4 card with 128MB make a big difference from the 64MB card I'm running. If so what is the recommended card...Saw a GF4 TI-4200 for$149.00...Not A Real Happy Camper At The Moment. A fool and his money are quickly separated.....Any suggestions appreciated. December 20, 200223 yr Unless the GF3 is broken, changing the video card won't make a noticeable difference. You may want to see the GF3/GF4 comparison charts in this post before buying the 4200:http://www.frontiernet.net/~pleatzaw/revie...%20vs%20GF4.htmTrip
January 9, 200323 yr Does your BIOS show your CPU running at 2.0 Gig? Some mobos will default to a FSB of 100 on initial startup and you need to re-set them to the 133 or 166 speed. With an XP 2400 I'm thinking your BIOS should be showing a multipler of 12.04+ X 166 FSB or something along those lines. Also some mobos have a jumper thats an Athlon/Palamino or Duron setting. I don't know if Gigabyte does but ASUS boards do. Sometimes the jumper is set wrong at the factory. Look in your Gigabyte manual and see if your board has that jumper. Also you should be able to overclock your CPU to at least 2.2 gig and maybe beyond. I have an XP2000 which has a speed of 1.67 Gig but I run it at over 1800 without lockups.I have the same G3ti200 card--mines a Gainward card and I run 41.09 drivers from Nvidia. Don't know that those drivers would make an diff but thats what I run. Good luck to you!David
