Video Card: AGP (PCI Mode)???

Featured Replies

HELP!! I just built a new PC and noticed that the video card bus is showing as "AGP (PCI Mode)" (under Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, GeForce4 Tab). I checked the BIOS and it is set to use AGP for video. I am currently running with the NVidia 41.09 drivers and DirectX 9 (upgraded from DX8 and older drivers to see if it made a difference). I have not been able to run FS2002 for more than a few minutes without it crashing or rebooting my system and I am wondering if this might be part of the problem. If anyone has any ideas on how to get true AGP to work I would be most grateful. My last resort will be to do a backup of files, reformat my drives, and reinstall from scratch this weekend. My system specs are:Windows XP Pro - SP1DirectX 9NVidia 41.09Asus P4PE (1002 BIOS)P4 2.531GB Samsung DDR333 (PC2700)Asus V8460 Ultra Video CardCreative Audigy2Thanks!

I only have a GeForce 2Ti 200 64MB card and don't see that in the area you describe. My indicates AGP: 4X. What exactly are your BIOS settings for the AGP area?

Hi,Sorry it has taken so long to get back... I figured out the issue. I had to install a GART driver from Asus (apparently this was not installed when I installed the video drivers). Once I ran this install, the video card started to properly use the AGP bus. Definitely makes a difference in performance as I now see about a 15FPS increase in FS2002. Still am trying to find a combination of video drivers and settings to get a stable FS2002 session... I still do get many system reboots when running FS2002.Thanks!

In your 1GB of RAM, is it two 512MB sticks? If so, try removing one of the sticks and see if you still get lockups/crashes.

Bill Sieffert

I have 2 sticks of 512MB each. I will keep that in mind to try while trying out things. I flew a flight from KBNA to KORD tonight without any lockups (until I existed FS2002). The main difference in tonight' flight was that I was in full screen mode and I did not use FSMeteo. Thanks!

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) Well I took the stick of memory out of slot 2 and tried and I was able to complete all of my flights... including using FSMeteo, FlightTracker, and RC3. I just reloaded WinXP yesterday to take care of one of two other issues, so hopefully the fresh install of FS2002 will work the first time around.Now... what to do with that extra stick of 512MB RAM???Thanks for the help!!!

Well, I have the same problem, except it is two sticks of 256MB each! I guess I'll just keep them until I can figure out why my two MOBO don't like over 512MB.This problem has been all over the SOYO news forums. Some indicate poor powersupplies, some cheap RAM (Huh, mine wasn't that cheap), others MOBO problems with DDR RAM, and heat!Who knows! They both are rock solid with 512MB!

Bill Sieffert

If your mobo has 3 or more slots for ram, the two sticks may not have to be in adjacent slots. Many boards with 3 slots work okay with the ram in slots 1 and 3. This helps alleviate the heat problem in the ram somewhat.Art.
