January 1, 200323 yr I am led to beleieve that upgrading my 2000 XP to a AMD 2600 XP will make a big difference to Frame rates because of the huge increase in FSB speed from 233 (is the correct FSB speed for a AMD 2000XP?) to 533 Mhz.Is this correct, or am I being misled again.Best Wishes, and Many thanks,ChrisEGBB
January 1, 200323 yr I assume you are going to get a new MOBO, since your present MOBO probably doesn't support that FSB or CPU speed. What about your graphics card? What speed is it going to render the graphics? Bill Sieffert
January 2, 200323 yr I just did the 2100+ to the 2600+ upgrade. Your FSB was 133x2=266mhz, AND WILL BE 166X2=333MHZ FRONT SIDE BUS. Don't know where you got that 533 figure from. I saw a nice increase..but not a woah..look at this son of a gun cook now!!!! Increase of 1000+,- in 3dmark 2001SE. I am pleased with the upgrade over all.My system....ABIT mobo kx7-333 @ manual 166mhz @>13 mutiplier and latest bios upgrade in soft menue. 1 gig pc2700 ram@166mhzx2= 333mhz.Unless your board can do it (multiply ram to less than 166mhz x2), you will not be able to run this processor @ 166mhz x 2=333mhz , unless you have pc2700, or greater ddr ram. See my previous post on upgrade in this forum.

A faster FSB but not that much faster. The 533 number you have is from a Pentium 4 FSB which is quad pumped 133.33X 4=533. David
January 6, 200323 yr Hi David et al,Many thanks for your help. i HAVE DECIDED TO STICK WITH MY AMD xp 2100 FOR THE MOMENT, until there is a significant increase in Bus Speeds. It sounds like we are all being duped here!, as the system is obviously restricted by the speed of the FSB.Best Wishes to all,Chris EGBB
