MSI G4 Ti4200 lock up after 30 minutes flying!!

Featured Replies

Hi all you system experts,I need your help. I have just spent the week installing the G4 Ti4200 (128mb) card (made by MSI). All works well for about 1/2 hour and then the screen goes blank and the computer resets. This has only started occuring since the card installation. I am sure I have not forgotten anything but I am not a hardware expert. Thanks in advance for you help.Bobfrom the Isle of Wight (where it has rained since 1976!)System specs as follows: GA-7ZXE VIA KT133A, AMD XP1700, 512mb ram, SB live soundcard, MSI G4 Ti4200(128mb) running version 30.00 driversWin98SE, AOC monitor.

Just a guess but I would say it's a power supply issue. Possibly to low a wattage

I was looking at a GeForce Ti4200 (4600) card this past week that recommended a minimum 350w ps.So there are several possibilities, your power supply is okay but you have a heat related problem. Try removing the cover and place a fan toward you computer unit. Don't get it too close due to 60Hz EMI.The above doesn't work so maybe it is your ps.There also could be other contention problems and driver problems that are making your computer unstable.

Thanks you guys...I think you may have something with the power supply issue. I have tried, last night, running with the cover off and the problem is still there. It is only a 235w supply unit so I am off to the upgrade clinic today. I will report back with the results. These forums are brilliant, its like having thousands of mates around the world all sitting in my computer room giving advise!Bobfrom the Isle of Wight (England)

Ooooh! 235w, that could be the problem!!!:-lol

Yup! your right,Just bought a 400w monster with cooling fins like my lawn mower! I will fire it up tonight and see what happens. I've already warned my power company that there may be a surge around 7.30pm...Bobfrom the Isle of Wight

NEWS UPDATE400w power supply fitted and no change, lock up or lock up and reset occurs after about 30mins. Strange though, it only seems to be FS2002,all other games and programmes run with no problem. Very strange!Bobfrom the Isle of Wight

Well, onto plan B. I wonder if your new card is getting too hot or it is faulty. I would try getting the card replaced to see if this cures the problem. Make sure the fan on the card is turning. At least your computer is unpowered anymore! I know it stinks buying something and then not having it fix the problem. These darn intermittent problems are a bear to troubleshoot. You might try several other software updates for your controller chips, graphics adapter, sound, etc. to see if any of those can fix your problem.

Emmm!More strange and still a mystery. The system ran with no fault for 8 hours yesterday with Train Sim and good old Command & Conquer running.28 mins after firing up FS it locked on changing views from within VC.It restarted again with no problem and lasted about 30 mins of hard flying before doing the same!I think I will wind all the scenery settings to zero and try again. Thanks again for all your help again...Bobfrom the Isle of Wight (under snow!)

Better you than me!:-lolBobfrom the Isle of Wight (under snow!) Sunny but chilly Orlando, FL

News UpdateW...Thanks for your comments,I have the solution. We can do a house swap next week. You can come and live on the Isle of Wight and fix my pc problems and I can revisit Florida, using your spacious beach front accomodation...Even with all settings at basic, sound, joystick, video and performance it's still locking, even sitting on the ground in my A320!Bobfrom the Isle of Wight (still snowing!)

Sorry to hear you are still having problems and that it is still snowing!:~P I don't know what else to offer to fix your problem!:-hmmm It is suppose to get up to 72deg F in Orlando, FL today!!:-jumpy

W...Good news, we have fixed it. It seems the whole of the FS community have had an input on this one. In the end I deleted the cfg file and allowed FS to create a new one on start up. This was of cource with all settings at basic. Fs has now run for 29 hours with no lock up and I have reinstated each setting one by one. All is now back in working order.A big thanks to you for your great assistance, and remember, there is a free holiday on the Isle of Wight if you ever come this way!Bobfrom the Isle of Wight-where the sun always shinesWorking specs. G4Ti4200 (128mb) - level 30.00 drives - aTuner set up to look like my poor old Voodoo 5500.

Bob,"from the Isle of Wight-where the sun always shines"What happened with all the snow or does the sun shine between the flakes?:-hmmmElated you go it fixed!Bill
