1394 controller and networking

Hi Fellow Hardware Enthusiasts,It's been quite some time since I've been through this neck of the woods. But now I come before you with a rather embarrassing question. My motherboard is equiped with IEEE-1394 (firewire) capability. I've noticed for quite some time that when I uninstall my NIC, there is always a "1394 connection" that comes up in my list of available network connections. If I use the network setup wizard (I run WinXP), it bridges these connections for me. I've had a recent spate of networking problems, and I'm wondering if this bridge is part of the problem. Can someone please explain to me what this "1394 connection" is doing in my list of connections, and whether I actually need to bridge them? I'd sure appreciate it.

Since you are using WinXP, select start, select Help and Support, type "bridge" in the search box and read all about bridges, especially the do's and don't's.Since you indicated you had Network problems, I suspect you may have a don't in your system setup.
