January 4, 200323 yr holajust got a new dell computer for christmas, here are the specs:Pentium 4 2.00ghz512 megs of memory60 GB hard drivei switched out the ATI rage 128 ultra that came with the system in favor of my [relatively] old GeForce 2 MX/MX 400.now, im currently getting about 15-25 frames in fs, but that slows waaaay down to less than 7 frames at LAX with most of the sliders set in the middle (i can be more specific if you want). but it was just kind of frustrating (kind of like haveing to go 30 miles an hour in a ferrari).any thoughts or advice would be welcomed.thanks, ben sharp
January 4, 200323 yr You didn't indicate what OS you were using. If WinXP, you can change the basic computer performance under Control Panel, System Properties, Advanced Tab, Performance section, setting button. Also you may have a lot of useless programs running in the background. Check in the lower right of your screen in the clock area. Do you have a lot of Icons in the System Tray? If so, try turning off some of these items from starting whenever windows starts.I would say neither graphics adapter is going to perform as good a newer ATI and GeForce cards.Lastly, you didn't indicate how much Addon Scenery and/or AI, you might have on your LAX scenery. For instance, when I visit Atlanta, GA (KATL) with no addon scenery but 100% AI my compter stutters trying to render the default airport and all the AI.As I indicated above, try to optimize your basic computer first then try tweaking fs2002. January 4, 200323 yr thanks for the reply. i forgot to mention i am using windows xp, and i dont have any add-on scenery in fs, just the basic stuff, i will try your suggestions though.thanks again, ben
January 4, 200323 yr Dell is probably only going to put their basic stuff on the computer and not optimize it for flightsimming. Along these lines, I would look for updates for the controller chips, graphics adapter, sound, NICs, modems, etc.A file labelled gf4mxdsp.zip at www.flightsim.com will help provide additional functionals to your MX card.
