Hey guys, upgrading my 1700 XP to a 2400 XP. I've got an ECS K7VTA3 mobo, I looked on the ECS website, it says that mobo will support the 2400 XP (non-333mhz), I've pulled my 1700 out and replaced it with the 2400, but I get nothing. Switch back and the 1700 works fine. The core voltage is set at 1.7v, but on the AMD web it says it's supposed to be 1.65. I can't find a place to change the voltage on this board, and jumper 7 changes between 5v and 3.3vThis has actually been a pretty good board, ECS probably isn't the greatest name in mobo's but it's actually been pretty good.I'm running WinXP, bios is ver 2.2 (ECS's latest) VIA Hyperion drivers, DirectX 8.1.I hope I haven't fried this processor, I'm using a mighty big heatsink and fan, it's a Speeze AMD recommended.Any ideas? Is there a way I can check to see if this processor is fried? I picked it up from Accubyte, it's an OEM processor, at a cheap price.Thanks,Lobaeux

Look at this table http://www.ecs.com.tw/support/techcpu/athlonxp.htm , does your MOBO meet the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). ver level and BIOS level?I'm assuming you have a PCB ver 2.0x and I don't see anywhere that it supports the 2400XP.visit alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.elitegroup

From what I've read it should work with that board,although I'd check and make sure from the mobo manufacturer and make sure you do indeed have the right BIOS version for that CPU.If the computer starts up but then won't go through the POST sequence its proabably a dead CPU.If the CPU is OEM you'll need to be getting it returned--those usually have a short return/exchange time on them--maybe 30 days at the most.When you get the new one and the computer POSTS leave it run for at least 24-48 hours after verifying that the temps are stable. That's the burn-in time and usually if a CPU makes it though that burn in its good for years and years.David

Thanks guys for replying. Once I turn the computer on, I get a quick 'whirring' of the hard drive, but then nothing. Nothing comes up on the screen either. It's ver 2 of the board, but I read somewhere else that my board will handle the 2400, that's why I got it. Is there any way of checking to see if it's fried? I'll return it to Accubyte if it is and if my mobo won't handle it then I'll be getting a board from them as well. Any suggestions on a board?Thanks,Lobaeux

Sounds fried to me unless that board is uncompatable. But usually what your describing is a fried CPU.My choice on a different mobo would be:A7N8X Deluxe Retail--about $158 over on NewEgg,although I think their out of stock. Its an ASUS mobo with an Nvidia chipset. This board will run XP's to 2800 and beyond. There's also a lighter version of the A7N,different version of on-board sound,a few less bells and whistles and a cheaper price tag.Good luck!David

If it won't post its fried. Or..possibably for a few bucks a local Comp shop might test it for you on one of their mobos.David
